Making the Choice: Letter Grade or Pass for Semester 2 - 🚨
Last week, each of our students should have received a link to an online portal where students/families are asked to make their initial grading option choice for this Semester. Graduating seniors will also make their grading choices during the same window between June 4-12.
High School Courses Grading Options Tool:
For Marking Period 4 (MP4), students enrolled in high school courses will earn a mark of Pass (P) or Incomplete (I) in each class, based on established criteria. Students have the choice to report their final Semester 2 grade as either a letter grade (e.g. A, B, C, D) or as Pass/Incomplete (P/I).
Timeline → Between June 4, 2020 and June 12, 2020 students/families can submit their choices for Semester 2 grades in each course, through a Grading Options Tool emailed to the student’s MCPS Google account on June 4.
Daily Limits → Students/families can update their preferences multiple times throughout the window but are limited to three attempts/submissions per day.
Course List → The tool will only show credit-bearing courses for students enrolled in high school courses.
Default Choice → If students do not submit choices, the default report card display choice will be “Letter” as long as the letter grade improves their overall GPA. Otherwise, P will be chosen.
Students received an email communication to their MCPS Google Apps account with information and next steps last, Thursday June 4, 2020. For more information about the Grading Options Tool, families and staff are encouraged to review the help guide.
The Grading Options Tool will display students’ courses, teachers, and grades for Marking Period 3 (MP3). Since MP4 grades are not yet final, students can use the integrated grade calculator to determine if they want the letter or the P/I for Semester 2.
Please reach out to your student's teachers about grades and where they stand in classes if you have doubts or questions. Please also make use of the help guide linked above.

Community Resources
Below is information regarding food/grocery access beyond the MCPS school meal sites:
Food Assistance Resource Map: The Montgomery County Food Council created an interactive map of food assistance providers and benefits application assistance sites in Montgomery County. It is searchable by location, food assistance type, accessibility and many other special features. This resource can give principals and families a quick view of local resources in their area. The information indicates where, when and how to access the resources. **We would caution parents and staff supporting parents to pay particular attention to how one qualifies to access food as some sites state requirements.
Weekend Bag Program: MCPS, Manna Food Center, and Women Who Care Ministries are distributing weekend backpacks with groceries to the families of MCPS students each Friday. The location of distribution sites and times are listed at the bottom of the webpage.

Retrieval of Items and Closing out the school year
I am expecting staff to be able to access the building on June 9 and June 10, following a staggered schedule to gather their belongings, to empty classrooms, and to turn in all necessary forms and keys.
We are looking for staff to help us work through the details in planning these processes, please email Monique right away if you are willing to help. Thank you to Nova Cobble, Sharon Gardner, and Stacy Hopkins-Jones for already volunteering.
