Principal Message
BSES Families,
As conference week comes to a close, we want to thank all of our families for partnering with us. Sitting down to share information about the growth and development of our students is critical to their success. We never take for granted the support we receive from our families, and look forward to working with you throughout the third trimester of this school year.
We hope that everyone has a wonderful Spring Break. Enjoy the time with family and friends. Happy Easter to all that celebrate.
Take care.
Tara Allen & Susan Papson

BSES Trailblazers Winter Club Recap
We recently finished a jam-packed session of Trailblazers BSES Birding Club! This season, we enjoyed a lots of hikes on the nature trail (including one very snowy one!) We also enjoyed some very close study of our resident Eastern Bluebirds here at BSES. We are looking forward to our upcoming spring session as well as our three sessions of camp this summer!
BSES Rocks Our Socks!
The Helping Hands Club is grateful for the donations made to the Down Syndrome Association of Delaware. We raised $214 and awareness of this condition.
What's Happening in STEAM?
In STEAM this semester, we've been hard at work focusing on architecture and design. There's been a lot of planning, building, improving, and presenting of ideas. In Grade 3, our focus was on inclusive playgrounds. In Grade 4, we worked on mini golf courses. And, in Grade 5, we took a look at engineering flying devices. Next semester, we will highlight the hard work done in K,1,2!
Social and Emotional Well Being - Renaissance Fundamentals
The Social and Emotional well-being of our students is at the forefront of our decision making in Garnet Valley School District. In order to inform our decision making related to social and emotional supports at school, we plan to administer a brief 10-20 minute universal survey to all of our students. The survey, entitled Renaissance Fundamentals (formerly known as PASS: Pupil Attitudes to Self and School), provides schools with reliable and valid data about how students feel about themselves as a learner and how they feel about school. The research- based survey assists schools in detecting possible barriers to student learning, including issues around confidence, resilience, motivation, and concentration so that we can attempt to proactively intervene to provide supports for our students and school community. More information about Renaissance Fundamentals can be found by clicking HERE.
As with any survey, participation is voluntary, parents have the right to preview the questions prior to participation, and can opt their children out of the survey. If you would like to preview the survey or to opt your children out, please contact: Kim Doyle, Supervisor of Social and Emotional Wellness at: doylek@garnetvalley.org or 610-579-7381.
Specific information about how and when our building will be administering our survey will be shared in the upcoming weeks. Thank you in advance for your consideration of Renaissance Fundamentals.
Supporting Expected Behavior on the Bus
We have been working with students and staff on reinforcing expected behaviors. One area of the school day that we have been spotlighting is the bus. Please click here to read about the work we have been doing around bus behavior, how you at home can support this effort, and a few bus pick-up times changes.
As always, thank you for your partnership.
