We had some severe weather / Tornado Warning the other day. I was so pleased with how well the students and staff handled everything. We were able to remain calm, wait out the storm, we even brought parents from the pick up line into the building. Our goal was to keep the kids safe and then get the students home safely.

When we have incidents like these we like to debrief after the event to see what we could do better and celebrate what went well. There was a lot that went well! Thank you for your patience and understanding. Your certainly helped with that.

I know everyone wants answers and especially want to know their child is safe. While all this was going on we had a lot of phone calls. Unfortunately , we are not able to answer the phones in times like these. This is why we sent multiple Parent Square messages. Make sure to sign up for Parent Square if you haven't already.

In the future continue to know, during any issues that may arise at school our goal is always to keep the students safe. This is our first priority. In times like these keep your phone or computer close by and wait for communication from us. We will get it to you as soon as we possibly can.

The students at NCES are able to receive positive referrals from staff for going above and beyond. We are so proud of our students who have earned positive referrals during the month.

When students receive a positive referral their photo is taken, the receive a bracelet, candy or a pencil. Additionally, students receiving positive referrals are honored as we hang their photo in the hallway of each student receiving a positive office referral and these students are also honored on our morning announcements which can be viewed on our Youtube channel, and their pictures scroll on the TV in the office. It is really exciting for our students.

WAY TO GO KIDS!!!! You are the good example for others! Keep it up the great work.

We have recently had an influx of students texting parents on their phones, or watches to come and pick them up from school. It is very important for students to be at school. Please remind your child they need to communicate to the teacher first. If a student does not feel well our process is , the teacher will send the student to the nurse. There, the nurse will check the student out thoroughly. If they are to remain at school they will be sent back to class. If they need to go home the parents will be notified bby the nurse to come pick the child up from school. Please help us communicate the same message to your child. Everything needing to go through the office staff. If you choose to pick your child up and they have not been seen in the clinic or the nurse did not choose to send them home, the student will not have an excused absence. If you have any questions please call the office and we can help.

We have just begun our second round of 3rd grade tutoring. We started March 1 and it will run through March 30. We currently have 16 students participating. They are working with 5 teachers. Our staff has volunteered to make it so we have very small groups, or children to teacher ratios. Our focus is to work with 3rd Grade students to help them be successful on the Third Grade Test coming in April.

If you are interested in adding your child to the Third Grade Tutoring group please call the office and we will see if they are a candidate.

Safer Ohio School Tip Line

The Safer Ohio School Tip Line is a free safety resource available to all Ohio schools. The tip line is an anonymous reporting system that accepts both calls and texts 24 hours a day.

This tip line allows students and adults to anonymously share information with school officials and law enforcement about threats to student safety—whether that involves a threatened mass incident or harm to a single student.

Things to report to the tip line include (but are not limited to):

• Bullying incidents;

• Withdrawn student behaviors;

• Verbal or written threats observed toward students, faculty or schools;

• Weapon/suspicious devices on or near school grounds;

• Gang related activities;

• Unusual/suspicious behavior of students or staff;

• Self-harm or suicidal sentiments; and

• Any other school safety related concerns.

Every tip can remain anonymous. School safety analysts may ask for additional information, but the caller can remain secret or leave his or her contact information for later follow-up.

Calls or texts to 844-SaferOH (844-723-3764) are answered by analysts within Ohio Homeland Security. If action is needed, the analysts immediately forward information to local school officials, law enforcement agencies and the Ohio School Safety Center (OSSC) for action and follow up.

The OSSC partners with the Ohio Department of Education to follow up with affected school and law enforcement agencies to make sure that the incident is investigated, action is taken and resources and supports are provided when necessary.

The Education Connection is a telephone number that you can call 24-hours a day to listen to your child’s homework assignments, report your child’s absence, hear the lunch menu, find out the scores of the big game, hear about school closings and leave a private message for a staff member.

You will still need to call your child in if they will not be attending school, or doing their online work for the day. We will still need to document attendance. We are marking students with green, yellow and red attendance.

We will be holding a Tecumseh Elementary PTO meeting on the second Monday of the month at 7:00 pm. These take place at Park Layne El. in the cafeteria. Masks are optional. Join the Tecumseh Elementary PTO Facebook for this information.

Arrival - Please drop off students at the front door no earlier than 8:30 to make a shuttle bus. Students are not able to enter the building prior to 8:30. If your child is having breakfast they can enter at this time. If your child is NOT eating breakfast at school they can arrive at 8:55.

Dismissal - All students will be picked up using the curb lane. Try to not have them walk around the car to enter. This is a safety concern for our students. If you are picking up your child please wait at the light pole by the crosswalk or stand on one of the many red dots.
