Recognizing 2024 National Board-Certified Teachers
JoLyn Glenn Recognized for Being Named Columbia Basin Music Educator of the Year
We recognized JoLyn Glenn's for being named the Columbia Basin Music Educator of the Year.
This prestigious award, bestowed upon her by fellow music educators across the Columbia Basin region, including the Tri-Cities and Walla Walla areas, is a testament to her exceptional contributions to music education and the lasting influence she has had on her students.
As part of this recognition, JoLyn received a plaque to be displayed on the Wall of Distinction in the Booth Building, along with a certificate to take home.
Congratulations, JoLyn, on this well-deserved honor!
Boundary Process Update Study Session
During a study session, Jake Stueckle, Director of Secondary Instructional Systems, facilitated a collaborative study session with the High School Boundary Team and the board. They reviewed feedback and data from boundary scenarios A (modified), D, E, and F, which were presented to the community during the third round of boundary scenario presentations and the online survey.
Board members engaged in discussions, asked questions, and discussed common themes of feedback from the community.
The board discussed narrowing the number of scenarios for consideration and eliminated option E. They also requested information about the bussing impacts of each boundary scenario.
2024-2025 Budget Presentation #1
During an extended study/discussion, Superintendent Michelle Whitney and Kevin Hebdon, Executive Director of Fiscal Services, discussed the educational funding landscape at the National, State, and Local levels. This discussion aimed to prepare for the development of the 2024-2025 budgets. They presented information to the Board regarding the current status of PSD's preliminary revenues and expenses. Additionally, they explored the upcoming steps and the Board's role in the budget process. They also delved into longer-term strategic planning to handle expected rises in expenses and declines in revenues.
High School Boundary Process Update

The Board will be working through their decision making process in the months of May and June.
Curriculum Update: Sexual Health Education Adoption
Wendy Lechelt-Polster, Director of Instruction and Assessment, presented the board with the recommendation for curriculum adoption of sexual health education materials. The process has been completed and approved by the Instructional Materials Committee.
Next steps include purchasing materials, developing the scope and sequence of lessons that meet the state requirements, implementing professional development on the new curriculum implementation, providing access to the public on our district website, and developing and publishing an opt-out process for parents.
