Celebrating Success: A Fantastic All-Staff Luncheon and Recognition Event
In an educational setting, taking the time to recognize and appreciate the hard work of teachers and staff is incredibly important. Honoring their contributions not only shows them that their dedication matters but they are making a positive impact on the students they serve. This recognition becomes even more meaningful when it comes directly from students, as with the North Star Awards that were awarded last Friday. Recipients being nominated by students highlights the deep and personal impact these educators and staff members have. When students take the time to submit a nomination, it’s a powerful expression of gratitude, showing that the efforts of school staff do not go unnoticed. It also allows students to share stories of how these individuals have made a difference in their lives, helping to build a culture of mutual respect and celebration within the school community.
I look forward to the next round of staff recognition, scheduled for January 17, 2025. For this occasion, we will be seeking nominations from our Community Partners, who engage with our district in various capacities.
With Gratitude,
Matt Ellis

OSAS 101 Recap: Why It Matters to You
During Friday afternoon's Professional Learning session, Assistant Superintendent Kim Lyon emphasized the significance of the OSAS (Oregon Statewide Assessment System) and how using the summative assessment results can help us better achieve our goal of ensuring high levels of learning for all students.
Here are some key takeaways from the presentation:
Leveraging Target Data to Identify Gaps and Strengths in the K-12 System
Target data helps us focus on specific areas where students need additional support and areas where they are already demonstrating proficiency. The Overall Score Doesn't Tell the Whole Story
While the overall score provides some insight, it doesn't fully reveal where students need more time and support or which areas they have already mastered.Target Data Represents a Cluster of Standards
By analyzing target data, we can pinpoint which Guaranteed Standards need more attention, allowing us to adjust our daily instructional practices accordingly. The PLT Process Facilitates Collaboration
The Professional Learning Team (PLT) process provides an opportunity to work together on analyzing data and making instructional adjustments that will positively impact the K-12 system.Current OSAS Scores and Our Path Forward
While current OSAS scores indicate there’s work to be done, we are taking critical steps to strengthen the K-12 system to ensure it serves the best interests of all children—your children, your neighbors, your relatives, and any child who is important to you!
A big thank you to all the PLT Leaders, Principals, and Instructional Cabinet members who contributed to co-designing the professional learning session. It was inspiring to see you collaborate and develop your school-wide standard focus plans. Your engagement and dedication made the afternoon truly impactful.
Celebrations and Recognitions🎉
There are so many wonderful things happening within our school community. These are just a few.
Our district is proud to support the professional growth of our staff through initiatives like the Grow Your Own Teacher program and tuition reimbursement opportunities. The Grow Your Own program provides a unique pathway for individuals interested in becoming teachers, offering support and resources to help them develop the skills needed to succeed in the classroom. Additionally, our tuition reimbursement program is designed to encourage ongoing professional development by helping staff offset the costs of continuing education. Both programs reflect our commitment to investing in our employees and fostering a strong, skilled workforce dedicated to the success of our students.
