What's Happening This Week:
From your HSD healthcare team:
There has been an increase in illness within our district and neighboring districts. Please refer to the Too Sick for School guidelines. This is also a great opportunity to remind students that hand washing with soap and water is more beneficial to stopping the spread of illness than hand sanitizer. Here is some great information from the CDC specifically for Norovirus and how to stop the spread.
HSD is hiring:
Nutrition Services is Hiring! Kitchen positions can offer a little extra income and the convenience of working on the days kids are in school. To apply, go to https://hillsboro1j.tedk12.com/hire/index.aspx and type “nutrition” in the Job Listings search box.
Women's History Month:
It's Women’s History Month! 🎉 In the month of March, we will celebrate the amazing contributions of women in American history. From a week-long celebration in 1981 to a full month in 1987, it's a perfect time to reflect on their achievements. Join us in celebrating their journeys, triumphs, and exploring intersectionality to better understand their impact on our world today. HSD Commemorations & Holidays Monthly Calendar

Parents/Guardians will now be able to report their student's full day absences up to nine days in advance in Parent Vue. See guides below. **Please note: Absences for partial days will still need to be called in to our attendance line.

Spring Break:
Spring Break is in two weeks! Your students will not have school March 25-29. When school resumes on Monday, April 1, it will be a 'B' day.
Century Band Returns from Hawaii!!!
The Century Band and Colorguard recently returned from their trip to Oahu, Hawaii. They had the opportunity to perform at several venues, including a parade, three standing concerts, the Hard Rock Cafe, and an impromptu jam on the beach. They learned about American history at Pearl Harbor and were able to feel the sacredness of the U.S.S. Arizona's Memorial. They were immersed in a wonderful cultural experience, learning about native Polynesian traditions, music, arts, and customs. They hiked the dormant Diamond Head volcano. They were able to learn from and appreciate other performers at a luau, at the Polynesian Cultural Center, a singing bus driver, and even a show featuring Elvis and Michael Jackson. They enjoyed the beauty of land, ocean, wildlife, new foods, and an unforgettable experience with their friends.
Crystal Apple Nominees:
Congratulations to CHS French and AVID teacher Reyna Land and Office Manager Extraordinaire Peggy Meeuwsen for their Crystal Apple nominations!!!
New This Year: Theater-Style Award Ceremony for Expanded Participation:
We are delighted to announce a special enhancement to this year’s Crystal Apple Awards – the ceremony will be conducted in a theater-style setting! This change is aimed at allowing for expanded participation, creating a more inclusive and engaging experience for the entire community. Students, family members, colleagues, and community supporters are all welcome to join in celebrating the nominees for the prestigious Crystal Apple. This format not only provides a larger space for attendees but also ensures that every moment of the ceremony is experienced up close, making it a truly memorable event for all.
