Mitchell Elementary is a “Great Place to Grow”

Twenty years ago I was teaching at Blumenort School when I was hired as the principal of Mitchell Elementary School. Although the idea of moving to this newly created K-4 school was the challenge I was looking for, I really had no idea what I was getting into moving from the classroom into the principalship with no Vice Principal experience. Now all these years later I look at our school community and smile at the depths of this challenge and the resulting community I have been blessed to be a part of. I am proud of MES.

I am also proud to be a part of the Hanover School Division and excited about the new challenge of leading our division. Leaving a school and community I have been a part of and having my kids move through has been better than I could have ever thought possible. Saying goodbye is hard but I am thrilled that MES is in good hands with Jennifer Thomson as the newly appointed Principal. Mrs. Thomson was my very first teacher hire in my first year as Principal and little did we know back then how things would unfold.

As I move into the Superintendent's office this August, I want to say thank you. Thank you for all of the support you have given me and our school over the years. Thank you for the endless kind words, smiles, cheerful hellos in the mornings, and warm hand shakes. It is true, Mitchell Elementary is a “Great Place to Grow.”

The Grade 4 Running Club will be having our final 5 km race on Friday June 7th at 10am! All family and friends are welcome to come watch or line the streets to cheer on the runners. All runners will celebrate their running accomplishments with a Celebration Lunch after the run!

MES PAC is excited to host a BBQ picnic lunch on Friday, June 21. All proceeds raised at the picnic will go towards the new Rock Climbing Wall to be installed in the school gym.

BRING LAWN CHAIRS OR BLANKETS and enjoy lunch together with your children. All students and their families are invited to join.

Order forms have been sent home to pre-order your food for the picnic. Forms are to be handed in to their homeroom teachers by Wednesday, June 5 (One order per family)

**Only people who pre-order will receive hot dogs. There will be no purchases available on that day **

Staggered dismissal times for lunch:

11:00 am Kindergarten

11:10 am Grade 1

11:20 am Grade 2

11:30 am Grades 3 & 4

Lunch combos are $6 (hotdog, drink & chips)

Individual items can also be purchased:

There will be a Silent Auction with AMAZING prizes! Come view the table at the picnic and purchase some tickets for a chance to win! Tickets are $1 each.

Thank you to all who donated to the Caring for Kids fundraiser. The final total was $5,912!

We will be able to continue sponsoring all 13 students to school in Liberia.

Kindergarten registration for the 2024-2025 school year is open! To be eligible, children must be five years of age on or before December 31, 2024. The registration process will take place online at www.hsd.ca. If you do not have access to the Internet, please visit the school office and we can assist you in completing the registration on a school computer.

Thank you for all your support and coming to enjoy our program this year! Keep your eyes on the student services website for a blog post about our program that we are so excited to share with you! It’ll be posted in early June. For the 2024/2025 school year we will be at Mitchell Elementary on Tuesdays from 1:00 to 3:30 pm and Thursdays from 9:00 to 11:30 am. In severe weather conditions, the Hanover School Division closes the school and stops the buses.

An announcement is made on radio stations 95.1 FM, 96.7 FM, and AM 1250 between 7-8 am, as well as on www.steinbachonline.com and as a bulletin on www.hsd.ca
