January 2025
A message from Dr. Gerault
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Happy New Year! I hope you and your families had a joyful and restful Christmas holiday. Just a reminder, our holiday break runs from December 21 through January 6, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back on January 7, 2025, to begin the Spring Semester.
As we return, we are excited for a full semester ahead, with plenty of opportunities for learning, growth, and achievement before the school year concludes. It’s crucial for all students to be at school every day and to arrive on time, ready to start the instructional day promptly at 8:15 a.m.
Every minute counts, and starting the day with focus and preparation sets the tone for success!
We also want to inform you of a change in the days we welcome lunch visitors. Starting the week of January 13, lunch visits will shift from Tuesdays and Thursdays to Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Thank you for adjusting to this schedule as we continue to foster positive connections between families and our school.
Lastly, please note that January 20 is a holiday for students and staff in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Let’s take this opportunity to reflect on the values of service, equality, and kindness that Dr. King so passionately advocated for.
Thank you for your continued support as we embark on this exciting second half of the school year. Together, we can ensure a successful semester for all our students!
Warm regards
Dr. Jeanette Gerault

PBIS-Positive Behavior Interventions and Support
We hope you all have a wonderful holiday break. We are ready to take on 2025 by being Respectful, taking Ownership, being Accountable, and being Reliable Fiest Bears.
Bear Mart was a huge success in December. Students used their PBIS Rewards Points they earned for using effort in academics and behavior to select gifts for their family. Our Fiest Bears did a great job shopping for the perfect gift. It was so special to watch their excitement. We had 30 volunteers help in the gift wrap shop over the two days. Our volunteers were Fiest families, Friends of Fiest from Cornerstone Methodist Church, Cy-Fair Credit Union employees, and staff from our CFISD testing department. We LOVE our volunteers, and the kids enjoy seeing them here as well as having priceless conversations. It is such a beautiful event in so many ways. 🎁❤️🎁
Self Managers - We have almost 200 students that are self-managers at Fiest. These students manage their wise, safe choices in all areas of our school. They are great role models for others and lead by example. We can't wait to see who the next self-managers will be! Please view to see who our self-managers are so far.
As we are getting this 2nd semester of school started, we appreciate you taking the time to review expectations so all children can learn in an environment that is safe and pleasant. Please click here to review our school matrices of expectations as well as common language they hear from Pre-K through 5th grade. Staff will continue to acknowledge students with PBIS Rewards Points as it is our schoolwide student incentive. We appreciate your support. Bear ROAR, Eagles Soar, We Are ONE! 🐻 🎉 🐻

Nurse's Office
State mandated health screenings for vision, hearing, scoliosis & acanthosis nigricans were performed beginning in late September. Some students received Referrals recommending further testing with a doctor. These referrals were sent home with student’s first report card. A second referral letter will be sent home with student report cards the week we return from our holiday break. If your child does receive a referral, please complete the information requested and return it by Thursday, 1/16/25. All screening and referral results will be sent to the Texas Department of State Health Services.
Attendance Office
Please remember that whenever your child is absent, we must have a handwritten note from you explaining why the absence occurred. All notes must include the child’s first and last name, the date of the absence, the reason for the absence, and your signature. If you have a doctor’s excuse, please attach it the note.

Hi Fiest Families,
WOW, can you believe that we are already in January! We will be working on completing our mid-year assessments at Fiest during this month. The students in grades K-5 will be taking their assessments in Reading and Math, 3-5 Science assessment too. Please make sure that on testing days your student(s) is at school on time, with a water bottle, and glasses if they wear them. Assessments are taken during their class period. If possible, please try to refrain from your child leaving early so that they may complete the assessment in a quiet, testing environment. Devices are already on campus so they will be ready to rock and roll on testing days. Thank you for helping your student be prepared for testing. Below are the testing dates for January 2025.

Exciting things are happening in our third-grade classrooms this month! Students are diving into argumentative texts and biographies, sharpening their critical reading skills by identifying central claims, making inferences, and analyzing text structures. In writing, they craft thoughtful opinion essays and hone their ability to compose extended constructed responses. These activities not only build strong literacy skills but also encourage students to articulate and defend their viewpoints effectively. Meanwhile, in social studies, third graders are exploring the role heroes play in shaping history and discovering inspiring stories of individuals who have made a significant impact on our world.
Our fourth graders are immersed in the rich world of folktales, fables, and legends, developing their skills in paraphrasing and summarizing. In writing, they are creating imaginative stories and composing extended constructed responses based on their reading. Social studies lessons bring history to life as students delve into the Texas Revolution, learning about the people and events that shaped our state’s history.
In fifth grade, students explore autobiographies and work to define central ideas while practicing the important skill of asking and answering questions about their reading. They are conducting research to write informational essays and are engaged in learning about significant people and events from the 1900s to the 1920s. Topics include the Industrial Revolution, Women’s Rights, the Wright Brothers, and World War I, providing a comprehensive view of this transformative period in history.

Welcome back!
We are ready to hit the ground running in our PreK-2nd grade classrooms!
January is full of middle-of-year assessments! Please talk with your students about taking their time on these assessments and doing their best!
Pre-K is continuing to work on knowing their letters and sounds! In math, we are identifying shapes, counting to 30, and subitizing to 6.
Kindergarten is working on counting to 100 and knowing all their letters, sounds, and high-frequency words. Keep up the practice at home!
First grade will be busy working on place value to 120! This includes identifying numbers up to 120, ordering numbers to 120, and comparing numbers to 120. Want to practice more at home? Click HERE to easy activities to do at home.
Second-grade reading language arts is working on reading passages and comprehension questions after reading. THIS is a great article on reading comprehension and how you can help at home.
Continue to work on practicing high-frequency words daily with your students!
