The need for forgiveness
Pastor Bill Gran's sermon on Sunday February 25th was on Forgiveness. Part of the message was to invite persons to write notes of forgiveness and bring them to the foot of the cross. Pastor Bill took the notes and burned them as a reminder of God's Grace at work in our lives through Christ bringing forgiveness, hope and healing.
Psalm 32:5 I acknowledged my sin to you,
and I did not cover my iniquity;
I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,”
and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah
Thank You
Many thanks for the hugs, cards and kind words in this last year; in the loss of my sister, Jim's brother, and my mom. We appreciate you all.

Meet Jordan Minnich Kjesbo
Greetings friends!
Some of you may recognize me as I filled in for Pastor Eric on a few occasions this past fall. My name is Jordan Minnich Kjesbo and I’m super excited that I get to join you all in worship a few times during this interim season. In addition to helping out at Wesley once a month this spring, I serve as the pastor at Vermillion First United Methodist Church and work as an affiliate faculty at Kairos University (formerly known as Sioux Falls Seminary). My wife Faith and I live on the west side of Sioux Falls with our two kids (Hazel is 8 and Henry will turn 6 in April) who attend Discovery Elementary and our rescue golden doodle named Finley. I graduated from Sioux Falls Seminary in 2016 with a Master of Arts in Bible and Theology (M.A.B.T) where I focused on the area of Ethnohermeneutics (or studying how culture and interpretation work together). I’m also a good portion of the way through my Doctorate from Kairos University though I’m on hiatus as I reevaluate which degree (M.Div, ThD, or PhD) makes the most sense for me. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my wife and kiddos, going to the gym (and definitely hitting the sauna), walking our pup, cheering on the Green Bay Packers, watching Formula 1 races, and throwing a large chunk of meat in the smoker. Words can’t fully express how grateful I am that I get to spend some more time with you all this spring. So… thanks and I’ll see ya on March 17th!
Meet Tyler Kopp
Hi, I'm Tyler! My wife, Andrea and I have been married for four years, and have lived and worked here in Sioux Falls during this time. I work as the Area Director for Young Life, a Christian Non-Profit youth organization working with volunteer adults to introduce teenagers to Jesus Christ and help them grow in their faith. I went to USF for Theology and Youth Ministry, graduating in 2020 with my Bachelors degree, and I am currently pursuing a Masters of Divinity graduate degree.
My interests include preaching and teaching on the life of Jesus, writing curriculum for Bible study and Discipleship for young people, and reading biographies of my favorite athletes from my childhood. I grew up an athlete and root for all Minnesota sports teams, additionally rooting for the Ohio State Buckeyes, and the New York Mets. Growing up, I wanted to be a professional baseball player, but now I desire to be a leader in the Church for congregations engaging in discipleship and mentorship of young people.
Wesley's Outreach
Terry Redlin Food Pantry - Good news! King of Glory church is teaming up with Wesley to provide volunteers to run the new Food Pantry at Terry Redlin School. For the past few months folks for Wesley have been working hard to get the pantry up and running. It will be wonderful to have the extra sets of hands providing this ever-important service to the families of the school. Each week we serve 20-25 family units, some with three family members and some with 11 or 12. The participants are truly grateful for our help. The Thrive organization provides the food through Feeding South Dakota, Terry Redlin provides the space and now Wesley and King of Glory will provide the staff. Side note- a grant was written that provides not only a refrigerator but 20-30 gallons of milk each week! Talk about teamwork! Contact Mary P or there is a signup sheet in the Narthex if you are interested in helping out.
March 9th is the 7th Forum of the year
The date for the March's forum is Saturday March 9th at 10a. The assigned topic of discussion is: Amenities what is provided and what is needed in the church's neighborhood. Come have a cup of coffee and a treat and meet your Church's neighbors. "Let's work together to make our Whittier neighborhood an even better place to live one forum at a time." For more information visit civicbiodesign.org/join-the-crc. If you have any questions or would like to provide treats for this meeting, please call Mary Poppenga. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.
Join the group on Saturday Mornings!
The team members from CRC, BAM, Habitat and other friends meet weekly at Wesley and invite everyone to join them. The core team would like to hear everyone's thoughts on the ongoing efforts to bring unity and improvements to the Whittier neighborhood. So more people can join the discussion, the meeting has changed from Wednesday to Saturday morning at 10am at Wesley. Every Saturday will be a different opportunity to talk and ask questions and find ways to help the neighborhood around the church become a place where everyone feels welcome and affirmed. We would love to see this group grow! Come join in and be amazed!
Night Watch Canteen
Wesley's turn to serve the Canteen is Monday March 25th. We will serve at Hayward School. Contact Mary P to volunteer or if you have questions.

Did you know?
The absolute best way to increase attendance or bring in new people is to ask them! It's very simple- make a phone call! Think of someone who has stopped coming to worship and tell them what a new and exciting place Wesley is.
Patient Safety in Older Adults
Safety is crucial for older individuals due to several reasons:
1. Injury Prevention: Hundreds of thousands of seniors aged 65 and older are treated in hospital emergency rooms each year due to injuries associated with consumer products. Falls are the leading cause of both deaths and injuries in this age group. By spotting hazards and taking simple steps to correct them, older adults can prevent injuries to themselves or visitors in their homes.
2. Fire Risk: Fires are another top cause of deaths among seniors. Installing carbon monoxide and smoke alarms, using and maintaining space heaters and fireplaces, and being cautious with fuel-burning appliances are essential safety measures.
3. Maintaining Independence: Safety measures allow older adults to maintain their independence for as long as possible. By addressing hazards and ensuring a safe environment, they can continue their daily activities with confidence.
4. Peace of Mind: Having safety precautions in place provides peace of mind during emergencies. Knowing that their living environment is secure helps reduce anxiety and stress for older individuals.
5. Reducing Depression and Psychological Problems: Feeling safe and secure contributes to overall well-being. Older adults who feel safe are less likely to experience depression and other psychological issues.
6. Reassurance for Families: Safety measures not only benefit older adults but also provide reassurance to their families. Knowing that their loved ones are in a safe environment eases family members’ concerns.
Remember, caring, preparation, and training play a significant role in ensuring the safety of older adults.
Blessings,
Dawn Armstrong
I apologize for the newsletter being late. The April newsletter will be early so the Holy Week services can be published.
