News for September 26, 2024
We were fortunate last Thursday to have a gorgeous evening of both indoor and outdoor fun at the Fall Family Gathering rather than storms. It was a joy to connect and celebrate a fantastic start to the school year. We loved to see families, hear how the start of the year has been going and to see students excited to introduce their families to their new friends. Thank you for coming and thank you for being a part of our community.
During that evening we also hosted a presentation to learn more about being a Title 1 school, our curriculum and ways to be involved as a family. As a Title 1 school, we receive additional funds to help support our School Improvement Plan. Here are the slides we shared and here is a link to our School Improvement Plan summary. We also shared a link to our Family Engagement plan. There are paper copies of the school improvement plan and the school and district family engagement plans in the office. If you would like a hard copy mailed to you, emailed, or sent home with your child, please call the office and we will see that it happens.
A great deal of planning and thought goes into our events for families and we would love any feedback you can share with us about our Open House/Meet the Teacher and our Fall Family Gathering. Please share your feedback here to shape our planning for the future.

Our conferences will be on October 10 and 15. Thank you to families who signed up at last week's Open House event. If you were not able to do so then, here are directions:
1. Go to https://www.myconferencetime.com/centralpark/
2. Click on the name of your child’s teacher.
3. Select the desired date/time for your conference by clicking on “Sign Up.”
4. Submit the requested information.
If you have several children attending our school, click on “Register for Multiple Conferences” on the top left and follow the prompts to schedule your children. After you schedule a conference online, the date and time are reserved for you. If you entered your email address correctly, you will receive email confirmation of your conference.
You will also receive an email reminder the day before the conference. Online sign up will be available until October 4th.
Connect with us at school if you would like assistance with this process. It's important to us that we connect with each child and their family!
Tomorrow, Friday, September 27th, we will be holding our first fire drill and practice a "hold" of the school year. As we kick off the year with our practice drills, I wanted to share with you some important details on what our district safety protocols look like.
As part of our district-wide efforts to familiarize staff and students with the Standard Response Protocol (SRP), Central Park will be conducting the following drills: HOLD, SECURE, LOCKDOWN. Here is a Link to the Standard Response Protocol informational video.
Students and staff are NOT in danger when a drill is called. When I share that we are doing a drill on the loudspeaker, I will remind students several times this is a drill. Students will be reviewing the Standard Response Protocols (SRP) for each specific drill in their class. The focus will be on safety and practice.
Please reach out if you have any questions or would like to talk more regarding safety drills.
For more information please click here for the Standard Response Protocol family handout.

Information on Head Lice
Head lice are a common nuisance that typically affects school age kids and their families. The purpose of this communication is to provide families with education about head lice and treatment options to reduce fear and stigma. Throughout the school year we ask you continue to check for head lice. Head lice are typically spread outside of school among families, friends, and sleepovers. Please take the time to check, treat, and prevent the spread of head lice.
Here is information regarding Roseville Area Schools district policy. Scroll down to "Head Lice":

Helpful Reminders
Head lice are parasites that are generally found on the scalp, around the ears, and at the back of the neck. Lice can only crawl. Lice cannot jump or fly.
Head lice are NOT a sign of poor hygiene and they do not transmit disease.
Children should minimize head to head contact to prevent transmission. Indirect transmission is not likely, but lice may spread from person to person by items such as: hats & scarves, brushes & combs, hair accessories, headphones, pillows, and towels.
Children should be checked weekly for lice.
Children with long hair could have their hair braided or pulled back to minimize chance of transmission.
How to Do a Head Lice Check:
Symptoms: The most common symptom of head lice is itching and head scratching, particularly at night. Red bite marks or sores may be noticed on the scalp and also scratch marks on the neck area.
Check for lice: Check your child’s hair for lice and use a fine comb or nit comb. Comb through hair from the scalp to the hair ends and wipe comb on a wet paper towel to see if lice are present. It may be easier if your child’s hair is wet or damp. Eggs or nits may look like small white droplets and stick to the hair shaft and can only be removed by pulling down the hair shaft.
What Lice Looks Like: The adult louse is about the size of a sesame seed and can be the color of your child’s hair. Lice can be difficult to spot because they are small, avoid light, and move quickly. Eggs, or nits, are smaller and silver or white in color. Nits stick to the shaft of the hair and are found close to the scalp.
Treatment: Common over the counter shampoo treatments can be purchased at any pharmacy.
Health Office Checks: Parents may request a head check for their child at any time in the health office. Our district goal is to minimize students missing valuable learning time and to maintain confidentiality for every student.
Please email or call Lisa Buck the school nurse, at lisa.buck@isd623.org or 651-259-6766 with any questions.
