VPHS EARNS MOST IMPROVED ATTENDANCE AUGUST-SEPTEMBER 2024
Villa Park High School has been recognized by OUSD for Most Improved Attendance among its cohort schools for August and September 2024 as shown in comparing attendance rates from the 2023-2024 school year. We have placed a priority on student accountability and promoting consistent attendance, which increases success in the classroom. The OUSD Most Improved Attendance Trophy has been placed for display in the Counseling Office. Pictured is Principial McCuistion, Assistant Principal Mr. Pongco, and AP Secretary Mrs. Zlaket from Oct. 7. Great job, Spartans!
VPHS Earns AP Honors Bronze 2024
On October 1st, Villa Park High School was notified that it was being recognized by the College Board as a 2024 AP Honor Roll school. This prestigious recognition demonstrates Villa Park’s strong commitment to academic excellence.
The award is presented based on three factors: College Culture, College Credit, and College Optimization. The level of College Culture is determined by the number of students attending VPHS that take at least 1 Advanced Placement course. In this category, VPHS earned Bronze status. The level of College Credit is determined by the number of students that earn college credit by passing AP Exams. In this area, VPHS earned Silver status. Finally, the level of College Optimization is determined by students that have taken at least 5 Advanced Placement courses over their time at VPHS. In this category, VPHS earned the highest possible level of status: Platinum!
Overall, VPHS was ranked as a Bronze level status school for 2024. Great work, Spartan Scholars!

For the 2025 AP exams, students at Villa Park High School will be registering online. Online Exam registration will begin on Tue, Sep 10, 2024 at 8:00 AM and end on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at 11:59 PM. The AP exam registration process is two steps, but both can be completed in one sitting when the student and parent/guardian do this together. Even if you do not plan to take the AP exam, you need to complete both steps to access the
College Board’s AP resources. Both steps must be completed in order to have AP exams ordered:
- Step 1: Begin the process by registering at www.TotalRegistration.net/AP/052279. Here you will indicate both the AP courses you are taking this year and the exams you wish to take. You will receive your join codes and directions to complete the second required step. Any exam fees will be paid online so be sure to have a debit card or credit card available before beginning registration. Paying online is a great way to make sure that payment has been made while avoiding mailing payment.
- Step 2: Use the join codes provided at the completion of step one to enroll the student's AP courses and exams in the College Board's system.
October E-Bike Safety Lunch Presentations
The VPHS E-Bike Permit Program is starting in November and requires all E-Bike riders to attend a safety presentation before receiving a parking permit. This month (October), VPHS is hosting two lunch presentations in the LIBRARY from OC Sheriffs. Students in attendance will fulfill the safety requirement for their E-Bike permit.
- THURSDAY OCTOBER 24
(Students who attended the September 11 E-Bike presentation have already met the safety requirement)
5-Star - Schoolwide App for Students
This year we will be using the 5-Star Students program at VP to maintain safety on campus and to help students increase their involvement on campus. Students can earn points for attending events and participating in activities.
Student Conduct Guidance 24-25
- Student Attendance: Students who arrive late to class after the bell rings for each period are tardy. There is a 6-minute passing period to move from class to class. Students who earn 4 tardies will be assigned a lunch detention. We appreciate parent support in encouraging students to be prompt and show up to classes on time!
- Student Conduct Guidelines 24-25: Outline of student behavior and consequences administered by Student Services (Discipline). Please take a moment to review school policies on the following topics:
- Attendance Policy
- Saturday School & Loss of Activities
- Lunch Detention
- Campus Deliveries
- Dress Code
- Student Parking
Click Here to Review Student Conduct Guidelines 24-25
- Attendance: Parents must call or deliver a note to the Attendance Office within 72 hours to clear a student's absence. Students will be held accountable for their attendance through lunch detentions or Saturday School for unexcused absences. If a student is absent from school, they must provide an excuse for an absence (Illness, Personal, Medical Appointment, etc.). Calls to attendance can be made to (714) 532-8020.

The Student Voter Registration was created to ensure every school in California provides eligible students with a meaningful opportunity to register, or pre-register, to vote. The Secretary of State's office contacts schools annually to gather contact information as required by Elections Code and to provide voter registration cards, when requested.
Pre-Registration is available to CA students ages 16-17 who want to be future voters.

Aliza Randall-Health Clerk
Written by: Alexander Tran
Graduating from Irvine Valley College as an Early Child Education major, Mrs. Randall currently serves Villa Park High School as a Health Clerk. Prior to attending Irvine Valley College, Mrs. Randall attended Lakeside High School where she was active in the school’s tennis team, Mock Trial, and ping pong club. She graduated from Lakeside in 2013 with a handful of experiences that would ultimately prepare her for the job that she has here on campus. This is especially true as it speaks to Mrs. Randall’s longtime history in tutoring, volunteering, and working with special needs students. When asked about what drives her passion for students, Mrs. Randall believes it would be getting to know them and especially helping underserved groups on campus. Outside of work, Mrs. Randall enjoys playing the guitar, photography, and going to Disneyland.
John Carcich-Math Teach & Aquatics Coach
Written by: Alexander Tran
Graduating from Villa Park High School in 1986, Coach Carcich has a longstanding athletic history here at VP. While attending Villa Park High School, Coach Carcich was a lettered aquatic athlete in both Water Polo and Swimming. He would continue his passion for aquatics at Loyola Marymount University, where he played D1 Men’s Water Polo. At Loyola Marymount University, Coach Carcich majored in Business; a testament to his current position as a math teacher. Besides his 29 years of educational service, Coach Carcich is also Villa Park High School’s head aquatics coach, which includes our Boys and Girls Water Polo; and Boys and Girls Swim. Under his tenure as head coach, the Orange County Register would dub Villa Park High School’s aquatic program as a “perennial power”. Looking back at his educational and athletic contributions to Villa Park High School, Coach Carcich has long believed that seeing scholar athletes succeed and helping them achieve their goals is the most pertinent part of his position. Coach Carcich is also an avid outdoorsman, who enjoys the beach and the mountains. When he’s not playing or coaching aquatic sports, Coach Carcich is probably watching his favorite baseball teams: the Angels and Dodgers.
