Issue #11 - November 10, 2024
A Word From Mrs. Loor
That was a much needed break! Whether you stayed local or traveled, I trust that you were able to rest, recharge, and spend time with friends and family.
I hope your parent-teacher conferences helped you gain a better understanding of how your child is progressing at this point in the school year. Thank you for all of your Halloween candy and food donations! The students had a great time at our annual Turkey Trot. As a whole school, we donated 1,978 items to GRACE - that's a terrific number!
Starting tomorrow, we will be celebrating STEAM Career Week! Please see below to join in on our spirit week. Thank you in advance for all the parents who have volunteered to give career presentations to our students. We're looking forward to learning from you.
Happy Veterans Day to all who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Thank you for your patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.
Have a fantastic week!
With Warmest Regards,
Mrs. Loor

Please use pre-pay code: 2C9W7U6 - THIS CODE IS ONLY FOR ABSENTEES. This allows you to take advantage of the same packages we provided during original day.
Retaking an Image without an order
At this time, you are only able to view your original day image online. Once your image has been replaced with your re-take, you may go online and place an order using your personal web passcode we provided to you on your Last Chance card.
Retaking an image and already placed an order
Students MUST bring in their original package and provide it to our photographer. We kindly ask parents to write any concerns on the FRONT of the envelope. Your order will be replaced using your new image.
Franklin Artists
Franklin’s artists have been creating some amazing things in the art room this fall. Throughout our first projects this year, students have been learning about the elements of art, specifically line, shape and color.
Each year during conference week, students in the Elementary Schools create artwork for Grace’s Pantry to decorate the dining space during their Thanksgiving dinner. Students drew and decorated turkeys during art classes this week to be delivered before the holiday.
At Franklin, we are one big family! Check out our monochromatic self portraits completed by every student in the school! They are hung as a collaborative mural by the art and music rooms.

Coughs - What Parents need to Know
The NJ Department of Health and the CDC have reported an increase in childhood respiratory illness this fall, including both pneumonia and RSV. Respiratory illnesses are easily spread by coughing and sneezing. One of the best ways to control the spread of illness is to practice good hand washing and other hygiene techniques, such as coughing into a sleeve. Most importantly, if your child appears ill or is exhibiting any of the signs and symptoms listed below, please keep them home from school and follow up with your child’s doctor.
Cough
Coughing is an important reflex and most coughs are a normal part of a cold. Coughs can be dry (no mucus) or wet (with clear, white, yellow or green mucus). Coughing up mucus is the way the body clears the lungs and protects the lungs.
What's Normal?
White or clear mucus often accompanies a viral respiratory illness and/or seasonal allergies. Yellow or green mucus may be a sign of a bacterial infection.
Trouble breathing is a reason to see a doctor right away. Call the doctor if
There is a fever that accompanies the cough.
The area around the ribcage is pulling in and out with each breath, or the nostrils are flaring.
Your child is breathing faster than normal.
There is chest pain when breathing in or out.
The lips, face or fingernails appear bluish.
You hear “noisy” breathing, wheezing, whistling or harsh sounds when breathing in or out.
What to do for a cough?
To decrease the irritation or tickle in the throat you can give warm clear fluids.
Stay well hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids such as water.
Use a humidifier in the home.
Consult with your physician prior to administering any over-the- counter cough and cold medicines.
If you have any medical questions or concerns never hesitate to reach out to our school nurse, Ann Zanelli. Her email is azanelli@summit.k12.nj.us.
