- Location: DuJardin Elementary School
- Time: Students will have the opportunity to visit the book fair during their scheduled class time. Look for more information from the classroom teacher.

Summer Learning Challenge - Parent Survey
CLICK HERE to let us know if your child participated in the Summer Learning Challenge. We will provide incentives to students who completed one or more of the Summer Learning Challenges. We lost all of our IXL and LEXIA data over the summer and can not verify if students completed the Summer Learning Challenge. We will provide incentives next week. If you have questions, please reach out to the building principal phaugens@sd13.org.
Message from Principal Haugens
Dear Parents,
On Friday, September 27th, Bloomingdale School District will be “Going Gold” in honor of Michael Carr and to support Cal’s Angels. Michael Carr was a student at Erickson & Westfield who lost his very courageous battle with cancer in 2021.
We invite all D13 students and families to a special event hosted at Erickson Elementary School in honor of Michael Carr and to support of Cal’s Angels, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness and funds for pediatric cancer research and providing hope to children fighting cancer.
Event Details:
- Date: Friday, September 27, 2024
- Time: 4:45 pm
- Location: Erickson Elementary School, 277 Springfield Drive
Cal’s Angels was founded in 2007 in memory of Cal Sutter, a young boy who lost his battle with leukemia. Their mission is to grant wishes, raise awareness, and fund research for pediatric cancer, helping to bring joy and hope to families during some of the most challenging times. Through their incredible work, Cal's Angels has made a significant impact on the lives of countless children and their families.
Every child deserves the chance to grow up healthy and happy, and with your support, we can work together to fight pediatric cancer.
This is a wonderful opportunity to show your support for a meaningful cause while also teaching our students the importance of giving back to their community. We encourage you to attend this event, bring your family, and be part of this important effort to make a difference in the lives of children battling cancer.
View the flyer below for more information or CLICK HERE.
Thank you for your generosity and continued support. We hope to see you there!

Required Health Forms:
- Kindergarten: Physical, Dental, & Vision
- 2nd Grade: Dental
- Health Office Website
Student Needs:
Please inform the nurse of any allergies or sensitivities to foods, medications, and environmental allergens. If there are any pertinent details of your students' health that you feel the nurse needs to know, please reach out and discuss this with the school nurse. This information can be helpful to better support your student throughout the day, if certain situations arise.
About Your Student’s Medication:
The district's medication administration policy mandates that all medication to be administered at school requires an MD order, this includes over-the-counter medications. Students may NOT keep over-the-counter meds in their backpacks or in their lockers--including cough drops, Advil, etc. This is an important safety concern! Please review the policy included in the registration process.
If your student requires an inhaler, Epi-Pen, or any oral medication, please obtain the medication form and appropriate health care plan from your physician when your child has their exam. Forms may also be obtained on the district website.
Excused Physical Education Class:
Please note that all PE excuses need to be sent to the Nurse's Office. A parent may excuse a student from PE for up to 3 days. (consecutively) Thereafter, a Doctor's note is required.

AR Reading Program
I’m excited to share that our Accelerated Reader program is up and running! Click here for more information about the Accelerated Reader program at DuJardin.
This program is designed to motivate students to read more, develop strong reading habits, and improve their reading comprehension skills.
Through the AR program, students will:
- Choose books at their appropriate reading levels.
- Take quizzes after finishing their books to assess understanding.
- Earn points and track their progress toward personalized reading goals.
Our goal is to foster a love of reading in each student while also helping them grow as confident, independent readers. We encourage you to support your child’s reading at home by setting aside dedicated reading time and discussing their AR goals.
If you have any questions about the program, feel free to reach out to Mrs. Shermak hshermak@sd13.org or Ms. Burton aburton@sd13.org.
