SOEL- The Study of Early Literacy
Three Day Summer Institute for PreK-3 Teachers
Join the Study of Early Literacy learning network in its fifth year!
Grow your literacy instructional practice while becoming part of a community of learners in your county!
Each day of the three day institute, SOEL teachers will learn more about the Essential Instructional Practices in Early Literacy.
SOEL is meant to work with existing curriculum and practice in any program or framework, giving teachers deep knowledge of best practices in literacy instruction with a plan for implementation and further study throughout the school year.
Teachers will learn through a combination of study, guest speakers, and guidance from SOEL teacher leaders.
*SOEL is aligned to the research based Essential Instructional Practices in Early Literacy developed by the Early Literacy Taskforce of Michigan.
A SECOND SESSION IS OPEN: June 26, June 30 and July 25- THREE DAYS
Learning Experiences include:
- Overview of why, mission, purpose of SOEL
- Assessment for reading instruction
- Small group instruction in reading and writing
- In-depth coverage of many Essential Instructional Practices in Early Literacy
- Research of establishing a healthy classroom culture
- Integration and Vocabulary
- Overview of Dr. Nell Duke's Information in Action AND sampling for your classroom!
- Planning time to implement your learning in your daily practice
- Networking with colleagues across two counties in 14 districts
**PLEASE NOTE: Attendance is expected at all three days of the Summer Institute, and planned participation for the 2017-18 school year experiences.
