Thinking about attending post-secondary school after graduation? Exploring career options? Not sure on the career or sector? The event is free and open to all students in grades 9 through 12. The event will follow the provincial Restrictions Exemption Program, as well as adhere to Alberta Health Services and local guidelines.
The virtual component will include additional opportunities to attend sessions from numerous colleges, universities and sector experts. Participation is free and open to all grades 9 through 12 students.
Participating students and family members in either the in-person or virtual sessions will have the opportunity to meet with representatives from each attending post-secondary institutions, ask questions, talk to experts about various career sectors, learn about future career trends and much more.

Week in Review
Another busy week at RHJ! Our Band classes are working hard to practice their upcoming musical pieces for Remembrance Day, as well as learn some new music for Christmas. It is nice to see thier excitement and to hear them play!
Our Senior volleyball teams had an exciting week. Our Senior Girls defeated Clover Bar in their first playoff game, and our Senior Boys defeated the first place ABJ team to advance to the semi-finals on Tuesday!
On Friday we had our Halloween Activities. Our Drama department set up a Haunted House and students were able to experience the darkness and fear on Friday afternoon, and it was scary! We also had classroom costume competitions, and Instagram competitions throughout the week.

2. Out of the Shadows!
The Fort Family Violence Prevention Committee would like to invite all EIPS and EICS staff, students and families to join us for Out of the Shadows with Julie Lalonde on November 25th. Julie is an internationally recognized advocate for women’s rights and public educator. Family violence has been coined as the shadow pandemic and has huge ripple effects across our community. Criminal harassment is often underreported and can last for years, often with out anyone knowing it’s happening. It’s also become a very common phenomena for youth throughout the pandemic and oftentimes these behaviours can be seen as romantic rather than predatory. Julie will touch on safety, healthy relationships and how to support someone who may be a victim of stalking. To learn more about Julie and her story click here.
The Committee is hosting two workshops, one for the general public and one for service providers. Both workshops can be attended virtually or in person at the Shell Theatre.
1-4 PM: Out of the Shadows: Supporting Victims of Stalking (Front Line Staff)
- In this 3hr, interactive presentation, front line workers and advocates will learn about the root causes of intimate partner stalking, best practices for violence prevention and strategies for supporting victims.
6-8 PM: Resilience is Futile: Healing from intimate partner violence (General Public)
- In this 90 minute, interactive presentation, Julie will share her story of surviving stalking and will unpack the complex ways that communities enable abusers. Participants will leave the session better informed about the reality of stalking in Canada and equipped with practical ways we can all support victims/survivors in our communities.
To register: https://shelltheatre2021.ticketpro.ca/?lang=en&aff=shell#def_1398730702
I am hoping that you can share this invitation with your teams and networks and I hope that you will join us for this important conversation. Thank you so much for taking the time to support the Committee and I hope you are all well and keeping safe!
3. Community Supports
We recognize that many of us are struggling with one thing or another. Often times we don't know where to look for help. Below is a link to some community supports. Please reach out if you need support. Asking for help is a sign of strength, and there are people here and in the community that want to help.

Inclement Weather
With the winter season almost here, we want to remind families to dress children appropriately for the weather when getting ready for school or the bus. The weather often changes unexpectedly throughout the day, so please select suitable outerwear and ensure your child is prepared for changing conditions.
If inclement weather conditions occur, Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) advises families of any bus cancellations using various communications tools—automated-telephone messages, alerts posted on www.eips.ca and school websites, Twitter, Facebook, local radio stations, and notification through both the Bus Status and the Ride 360 apps. Morning bus cancellations are posted on www.eips.ca by 6:30 a.m.
Decisions regarding bus cancellations are guided by EIPS administrative procedures that state, “school bus service may be suspended…when there is a forecast or current temperature of -40 C, including wind chill factor, in one or more regions.” Other reasons for suspending or delaying school bus services include adverse weather and poor road conditions. When school bus services are suspended, schools remain open to students. EIPS believes families have the right and responsibility to make choices for their children based on their beliefs and perceptions of safety during times of inclement weather.
For more information, contact EIPS Student Transportation at 780-417-8151.
No Child Without: Free MedicAlert for students
In our ongoing effort to provide safe and caring schools for students, Rudolph Hennig is registered in the Canadian MedicAlert Foundation’s No Child Without program. The program is a national initiative that provides no-cost MedicAlert services to children—between the ages of four and 14 years—who have chronic health conditions. The goal is twofold: to help children with severe allergies, medical conditions or special needs and to assist schools with medical-emergency plans for students.
Once a child is registered, the school is provided with advice on a medical-emergency plan for that student and given a list of medications, allergies and medical conditions the student has. If your child has a serious medical condition or allergy and could benefit from MedicAlert services, contact the school office at 780-998-2216. To learn more about the No Child Without program, visit www.nochildwithout.ca.
Staff Contact Changes
We recently made changes to how families can contact Rudolph Hennig JHS staff.
If you’d like to reach out to your child’s teacher directly, simply log in to your PowerSchool Parent Portal. From there you can find the email contact information for all your child’s teachers and reach out to them directly as needed.
To connect with school administration and main office staff, refer to the https://www.rudolphhennig.ca/contact to send an email to the applicable person directly. From the online contact form, you can also send an email to report your child’s absence.
If you’re having trouble with your PowerSchool account, please contact the school office.
Brightspace App
To make it easier for parents and guardians to see what their children are working on, what’s on the schedule and the latest news from the classroom, Brightspace Parent & Guardian is now available as a mobile app for iOS® and Android™. Documentation has been created to support parents and guardians in navigating the mobile app.
School Fees
Pay School Fees Online!
School fees are posted to the PowerSchool Parent Portal and were due to be paid on October 30, 2021 for the 2021-22 school year. To access your fee information, simply log in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal and go to “Student Fees.” There you can view your fees and pay online using Visa, MasterCard or debit card—when available from your financial institution.
If you haven't yet paid your fees, please pay them online. If you have quesitons about fee waivers or payment plans, please contact the Rudolph Hennig office and speak to our Business Manager, Mrs. Tomkow.
Don’t forget to log in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal regularly throughout the year. Fees are often added to your child’s account to cover the cost of certain school activities such as field trips, class projects, athletic-team fees and more. Additionally, junior high and senior high fees can change as courses are added and deleted.
If circumstances exist where you’re unable to pay your school fees, you can apply to have fees waived by submitting an Application for a Waiver of Fees. The application deadline is Dec. 15, 2021.
For more information about school fees, waivers and payment deadlines visit www.eips.ca/schools/fees. Alternatively, contact Ms. Tomkow, Business Manager at Rudolph Hennig JHS at 780-998-2216.
