Happy New Year BWE Families,
I hope this message finds you and your loved ones warm and full of joy as we enter 2025. As we begin the second half of the school year, I want to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude for your continued support and partnership. Just yesterday, we experienced our first attempt to respond to extreme weather in 2025. It's always a tricky call to make because even our forecasted weather can be unpredictable. Thank you for your patience and support as we navigated through the process and technology fails in the cold, rainy weather. If you by chance need a car rider tag, the link to request one is at the bottom of each week's newsletter.
Our students have already accomplished so much, and I am excited to see what the rest of the school year brings. Next week, we invite students to participate, as we recognize the spirit of Houston! We've designated a day to recognize each of the hometown sports teams. We'll kick off the week representing the ASTROS and close the week with Grizzly Pride! It's going to be a super fun week! Details are below.
Thank you for being such an important part of our school community. I look forward to all the wonderful moments we will share in the coming months. I wish each of you a new year filled with happiness, health, success and many sweet memories.
Stay warm this weekend,
Dr. Barnes

2025 Girls on the Run Registration is OPEN
Girls on the Run Spring Registration for 2025
Register Online at www.gotrgreaterhouston.org
At Girls on the Run Greater Houston, teaching essential life skills is the cornerstone of our research-based programs. Trained volunteer coaches facilitate lessons that blend physical activity with life skill development, including managing emotions, fostering friendships, and expressing empathy. We inspire girls in the 3rd-4th grades to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based 10-week curriculum which creatively integrates running.
Registration is now open for the spring 2025 season. We will accept the first 15 registrations by Janurary 17, 2025. Our first day of practice will be on January 28th. The very last day of registration is February 7th. We will meet every week (except spring break) on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-5 at Birnham Woods Elementary. Parents will need to contact the office for transportation change as a GOTR girl. We will start out with an indoor lesson, run around the car rider loop, then wrap it up in the cafeteria. Girls will be picked up promptly in the car rider loop or they may ride their bike/scooter home. Rainy day will be conducted indoors. Coaches will contact parents if practice has to be cancelled.
