The Weekly Update #4
August 23rd, 2024
Message from Mrs. Silva
Hello Bearcat Families,
We've had a fantastic start to the 2023-2024 school year! It's wonderful to see all the students excited to reunite with friends and continue their learning journey. Every morning, Ms. Jenkins and I stand out front, and we feel privileged to witness the smiles on the children's faces as they arrive. It truly brightens our day and sets a positive tone for us. It's amazing how much a smile or a wave can uplift us.
This year, our school theme is "Glowing and Growing: In Our Learning Era." We are dedicated to setting goals and recognizing our students' achievements. As students meet their goals, we will celebrate their efforts and progress.
In the coming weeks, we'll be starting our beginning-of-the-year assessments. Please find the dates for these assessments listed below. To ensure your child performs their best, make sure they get plenty of rest the night before. We want to provide the best testing environment possible for all students.
The purpose of these assessments is to track student progress throughout the year. This initial test helps us identify each student's strengths and areas for growth, allowing us to tailor our curriculum to address any gaps in learning.
I'm excited for the weeks ahead as we strive towards the #GoldStandard!

Counselor's Corner
From Mrs. Thompson:
Welcome Back!
I have thoroughly enjoyed seeing all the students return to campus over the past week and a half. This year, I aim to keep you informed about counseling activities by sending out a monthly newsletter through the HISD App. You can also access the newsletter by clicking the link below.
Each newsletter will feature information about our Character Trait of the Month. This character trait will be discussed daily during the Advisory period in your student's classroom from 7:45 to 8:00 AM. Additionally, I will incorporate the Character Trait of the Month into my weekly lessons, which take place on Tuesdays for 5th, 3rd, and 1st grades, and on Thursdays for 4th, 2nd, and Kindergarten classes.

Important Information
Dismissal Procedures
Ensuring the safety and security of our students is a top priority. For dismissal, you have two options for picking up your child: you can either use the car line or walk up and wait on the island in front of the school. Please have your car tag ready. If you forget your car tag, bring your driver's license so we can verify your identity with the front office. For security reasons, we request that parents do not enter the school building.
If there will be a change in your child’s usual dismissal routine, please inform the office by 2:00 PM. This helps us ensure your child reaches their after-school destination safely.
We also ask that you avoid coming into the office after 3:15 PM to pick up your child
Pep Rallies
- Parents are welcome to sign their student out at the front desk of the elementary school and take them to the pep rally and sit in the parent section of the gym.
- Parents may also choose to sign their child out in the high school gym from their child's teacher but they must pick them up directly from the teacher.
- Children can only be signed out before or at the pep rally from their parent or guardian. Adults cannot sign out another person's child for the pep rally.
- Parents are asked to sit in the parent section on the high school side with their student during the pep rally.
