A message from the principal
December is upon us, which means this newsletter is jam-packed! From the latest on report cards to cold-weather reminders to our annual Making Spirits Bright, there is a lot of information below. Please take a few minutes to read through the entire newsletter so you don't miss anything.
With Thanksgiving, the end of the trimester and Winter Break all in reasonably close proximity, this time of year brings about some inconsistency in school schedules and a little extra busyness on the home front for many families. As a result, one of the things we sometimes notice on the school side is an increase in unexpected behaviors. Here at school we strive to maintain structures and routines to support learning, safety and high expectations. Your partnership at home is critical in reinforcing those expectations at school. Our three overarching school rules here at CBPA are:
Be Respectful
Be Responsible
Be Safe
If you could spend a few minutes talking with your child about what each of these things means and looks like at school, it would be immensely helpful. Your support is important and appreciated!
Lastly, our Character Strong character trait this month is Empathy, which means understanding and connecting with other people's feelings. This is also often defined as 'putting yourself in someone else's shoes.' Our staff will be engaging students in discussions and activities related to this important character trait. Please take a few moments to talk about ways your child can show empathy at home, at school and in the community.

Report Cards
Elementary school report cards will be available to view online only beginning Trimester 1
New for the 2023-24 school year, elementary school report cards will be available online and will no longer be sent through the postal mail or student's backpacks. Families will be able to access report cards by logging ingo A-H Connect or viewing it on the ParentVUE mobile app.
The switch to online report cards means that information is available to review at the conclusion of each trimester. Schools will notify families when the report cards are available to view. Parents, guardians and any person with educational rights to a student will be able to access the student’s report card online.
To ensure access to the report cards when available at the conclusion of Trimester 1 (Nov. 30), families are encouraged to make sure they have their login information now. Currently, report cards from last school year are available for viewing.
How to view report cards from A-HConnect (view detailed instructions):
Login to A-HConnect.
Click on the ‘My Student Information/ParentVUE’ icon.
Select a student from the dropdown menu.
Select ‘Documents.’
Select and view the applicable report card from the ‘Documents’ window.
The report card will open in a new tab where the capabilities to download or print will be available.
View from the ParentVUE app (view detailed instructions):
Go to the AppStore or Google Play and search for the ParentVUE app.
Enter your zip code when prompted, and select “Anoka-Hennepin School District” from the menu options.
Confirm ‘yes’ and select ‘Already Activated,’ if prompted.
Use login/password to login.
Select a student from the student list.
Select ‘Documents.’
Select and view the applicable report card.
Click the share button to save or share the PDF.

Making Spirits Bright
A message from School Social Worker, Mrs. Nettleton
We hope this message finds you well. We wanted to provide you with a quick update on our efforts to bring joy to those in need during the holiday season.
Yesterday, we sent out our main letter regarding cash and food collections, and we are excited to kick off our collection initiative on Wednesday, December 6th. Your generous contributions will play a crucial role in supporting 36 families this year, making a meaningful impact on their holiday experience.
In the school entry our giving board is set up. Feel free to step inside to pick a gift or two to purchase for the families. Drop your gifts in the box by December 15th! Gift cards can be dropped off in the office.

Volunteer news
Hello CBPA volunteers! Where did the month of November go? We have been busy here at CBPA. Thank you to those volunteers who helped with the camp baker field trip last week - a great time was had by all. Thanks as well to the volunteers who help in our lunchroom, workroom and classrooms. We value the time you share with us!

Making Spirits Bright(MSB) Volunteers: For those of you who are new to CBPA, MSB is our community wide compassion project in which local families in our CBPA attendance area are adopted to assist during the holidays with a gift giving and food drive. Volunteers are needed daily during the campaign to help with the collecting, sorting and packing of donated items. Time needed is 9:15-10:30 a.m. Dates for collecting are 12/6-12/8 and 12/12-12/14. Five volunteers are needed each day. PLEASE NOTE: We especially need help on Wednesday, 12/6 and Wednesday, 12/13. A sign up genius has been created for this event. Making Spirits Bright Volunteers
Ninja Math Warrior Day: On Friday, December 22nd, our 2nd and 3rd grade students will be participating in a ninja math warrior day! Ninja United is coming out and planning math activities and obstacle courses for our students to perform at 8 different stations. Volunteers are needed to be at each station to monitor that students are writing down the data they collect. One volunteer is needed per station and each shift is one hour long. Volunteers are needed for set up and clean up on that day as well. If you would like to be part of this fun day, please click on the link below to sign up:
Ninja Math Warrior Day Volunteers
December Lunchroom: We will continue to recruit volunteers each month to help in the lunchroom. Volunteers are needed to help with getting the students through the serving line, assisting them while they are eating, helping them during lunch dismissal and wiping down tables. The time is 11 a.m. - 1:45 p.m. However, if you are not able to commit to the entire time - that is ok - we will take whatever time you are willing to offer. Just note in your signup what time you will be volunteering! Please click on the links below to see what days help is needed:
Restaurant Night Coordinator: Our PTO is currently looking for a volunteer or 2 to take on this fun volunteer opportunity for the 2023/24 school year. Responsibilities include the following:
- research and setup restaurant night events or other passive fundraisers for CBPA families
- coordinate event nights with the PTO to avoid conflicting school or PTO meetings or events
- be the contact for the school with the restaurants and businesses
- provide promotional materials and coordinate the distribution of materials to CBPA families
- work with the volunteer coordinator to determine volunteer needs
- be present at the restaurant or business the day of the event, if necessary
- communicate with the PTO regarding funds that were received and updates regarding the event.
The time commitment would be up to 1.5 hours per month. Previous restaurant night coordinators are available to provide training and insights! Please let me know if this is something you would like to be a part of to raise money for the students of CBPA!

January 19th: CBPA Movie Night
Join us for a movie night in the CBPA gym on Friday, January 19th! Doors open at 6:10pm, and the movie "Under the Boardwalk" starts at 6:35pm. It's a 90-minute film, and we've got free concessions, including popcorn, candy, and juice/water.

Health services
With the arrival of cold winter weather, it is a good time for us all to think about outdoor recess.
Winter Outdoor Recess
Students should be prepared to be outside for approximately 30 minutes each day. The guideline to remain indoors for recess is:
0-degree F air temperature or -10 degrees F wind chill
Below are the items necessary for winter outdoor recess:
Warm Coat
Snow pants
Boots
Warm Mittens or Gloves
Hat or Hood
The health office does not have boots, hats, mittens, etc. to loan out to students.
Parents may want to consider sending a change of clothing in case clothes get wet at recess.
