FCMS Express
October 7, 2024
From Mr. Liggett:
As we head into October, let’s take a moment to focus on what truly matters most—our students. At FCMS, we understand that students are constantly faced with outside influences. That’s why we are dedicated to nurturing their ability to make choices that benefit both their personal growth and educational progress. We encourage parents to sit down with their children daily, discussing not only the good things but also the challenges they may face. Communication is key to helping children feel supported and cared for, and it plays a crucial role in their overall well-being and success. Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting our students.
Trent Liggett
FCMS Principal

Classroom Achievements: Cats Cafe
A special shout-out to Mrs. Osborne’s class who continue to make a difference in our school. The applied skills started the Cat’s Cafe. This coffee shop is ran by applied skills students/staff and typical peers. The shop sells lemonade, tea, and iced coffee. The Cat’s Cafe is open on Fridays to both students and staff. Students in the applied skills classroom are also in charge of the recycling program at the middle school. Students collect the classroom recycling and deposit it into an appropriate bin for pickup by the recycling company.
Staff Shout-outs:
We want to recognize Mr. Ebrens and Mrs. Middendorf who are helping out in the absence of our assistant principal, Mrs. Reuss. Mrs. Reuss is taking a leave of absence for a few weeks and Mr. Ebrens and Mrs. Middendorf are handling the discipline in her absence. We are very thankful for them stepping up to keep FCMS safe and secure.
Staff Spotlight
Mrs. Reuss: Wing Woman
This week staff spotlight goes to Mrs. Reuss, the assistant principal of FCMS.
Mrs. Reuss received her associate degree in early childhood education from Ball State University. She then received her Elementary Education Bachelor of Science degree from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College. Finally, she received her Master's Degree in Education and Principal's Licensure from Indiana Wesleyan University. She has been employed within the Franklin County Community School Corporation for over 34 years. Mrs. Reuss commented, “That makes [her] sound old!” She taught 1st and 2nd grade at Brookville Elementary School for 19 years. This is her 9th year as the assistant principal at FCMS.
She enjoys watching the Reds. She has lived in Franklin County all of her life. She loves the small-town feel and all that Franklin County has to offer. She used to be a big Mt. Dew and diet vanilla Pepsi drinker, but she mainly drinks flavored water now. She does not care for the smell or taste of coffee but she also does not care for plain water. Flavored water is her favorite. She is an absolute comfy person, especially if she has a good book to read! She is a very good listener. She is always someone who will be around when you need to talk.

FFA
The FCMS FFA Soils judging team competed at the Area Contest on Tuesday, October 1 at Ramsey Farms in Shelbyville, Indiana. Soils judging is designed to teach youth skills necessary in soil science and land use.The students evaluated soil properties at four different sites and made land use recommendations for production agriculture and home site development. This was the first contest for all of our students and they placed 5th as a team. Individual rankings were Preston Boone 12th place, Addy Conn 13th place and Abby Donathan 15th place. We are so proud of them for trying something new!
From our Language Department:
In 8th grade English right now, Mrs. Noah and Mrs. Hoog's students are working on narrative writing. They have learned about lots of types of figurative language already this year and are now working on adding examples of similes, metaphors, personification, and onomatopoeia to their writing. They are also working on being more descriptive by choosing specific details and words carefully. It appears that our 8th graders at FCMS have great potential in the creative writing field!!!
FCA
FCA this week was led by Hayden, one of our FCMS 7th graders. She talked about being popular and peer pressure and about how we should be striving to please God rather than striving to please everyone else. She did a great job! As always, FCA would love to include anyone looking for a new group to hang out with! We meet every Friday at 7:45 in the library.
October 2 was National Custodian Day! We depend so much on our custodial team, and are so grateful for them!
Thank you to Kim Bradley, Kenny DeMoss, and Amber Hartness for all you do for our school, staff, and students!
