Principal's Corner
I hope that all of you have enjoyed a fun-filled family break and you spent quality time with each other and are excited about the next half of our school year like I am!
Tomorrow morning we are excited to start off the 2nd half of our school year with an assembly with Jim Basketball Jones! Check out more details on his website at www.jimbasketballjones.com He is an amazing motivational speaker and we are thrilled to have him start off our week back!
Please check out the flier below if you are interest in ordering books by Jim Basketball Jones for your child.
Also, for our families who often reach out to Vitoria Neuhard, multilingual Portuguese assistant, she is now a new mother of a beautful baby girl! Please utilize Talking Points and Google Translate to communicate to your child's teacher or the office instead of reaching out to Vitoria. Also, you can always send me a direct message through Talking Points any time you need support during Vitoria's maternity leave. We may have some support while she is out but we are still working on that.
As always we are thankful for your partnership in supporting your child. Please reach out if you need anything!
All the best,
Julie (=

Counselors' Corner
Cultivating joy with your family is a crucial step to creating strong family bonds. It's the perfect time to do something joyful with your family! Read below for some joyful inspiration!
As students and families know, we participated in World Kindness Day back during the month of November. As part of the celebration of the day, during my lessons for the month students learned about donating to different nonprofits that help our community. Our students voted to donate funds from The Columbus Foundation to Columbus Humane. Here is their thank you and a certificate to show off our kindness!
"Dear Slate Hill,
On behalf of Columbus Humane, I want to express our heartfelt gratitude to you and your students at Slate Hill Elementary for your participation in World Kindness Day and for selecting our organization to support. The gift we received will help provide safety, critical care, and healing to animals in our community so that they can find new, loving homes. Your students are making a difference and saving lives of animals through their acts of kindness, and we are all so thankful.
To show our appreciation, I am attaching a certificate that you can print and hang in your classroom for all to see how kind your students are. Thank you again for helping make Columbus Humane!"
We hope you have enjoyed a great break, Stars!
Thank you for showing so much kindness!

Worthington Parent Portal Changes
Starting Jan 3, 2025, the old www.worthington-portal.org site will no longer be accessible. The vendor who owns and supports the system our portal site is built on is no longer supporting it.
The items from the old portal are now available from your Infinite Campus portal in the “More” section in “Parent Access Links”. Here is a guide to help you navigate this change: Parent Access Link.
We also recommend updating any browser bookmarks you may have.

From the Health Office
It's that time of year again…….
Your child is too ill to go to school if he or she has any of the following symptoms:
Temperature above 100.4 F
Vomiting or diarrhea within the past 24 hours
Shortness of breath or has an increase in wheezing during normal activity
Has a cough that interrupts normal activity
Pain from an earache, headache, or sore throat
Has yellow or green drainage from nose and/or eye(s)
Rash over body or localized to one area of the body
Fatigue and needs bed rest
Signs of conjunctivitis such as red, itchy, crusty, or swollen eyes
Students who are sent home with a fever of 100.4 degrees or higher must remain at home until the student is fever-free for 24 hours without the use of medication. In most cases, this means that students will miss the following school day. Please understand that fevers can reoccur within a 24-hour time period and this policy is in the best interest of all students.
Students who are sent home due to vomiting or diarrhea must also stay home for 24 hours to ensure that these symptoms are gone before returning to school.
Students exhibiting signs of conjunctivitis (crusty eyes, red or swollen eyes) may return once the symptoms have been treated and are gone or a note is presented from a doctor stating that the student may return to school.
Students who show signs of a communicable disease, such as exhibiting a rash, may return to school once the rash is gone or a note is presented from a doctor stating that the student may return to school.
Please communicate illness with the office.
Thank You!

School Meals and Free/Reduced Applications
The USDA had school food services return to pre-pandemic operations last year.
Worthington Schools has eligibility-based pricing of meals (Free/Reduced/Paid).
All Worthington School families are required to complete the online Free/Reduced Lunch Eligibility Form. All students use their Lunch ID for meals. The student's number can be found in the Parent Portal. Select the Student ID tab and look for your Lunch PIN.
Families can add money to their lunch account through My Payments Plus. You can also use MPP to track your student's account and see much money remains on it. My Payments Plus is also used to pay other fees, like high school parking permits and AP testing fees.
