From the Desk of the Superintendent
Now that the MSBA (Massachusetts School Building Authority) and Town Meeting have both approved the new elementary school building project, Stoughton voters will be asked to approve funding the project during a special election on Tuesday, June 11. Please visit the Town Clerk’s website for more information about this special election.
We will be having a community forum about the new elementary school building project on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. This is a great opportunity to hear about the latest updates and ask questions before the special election for the project on June 11.
There will be two forums on May 21:
There will be a virtual forum at noon via Zoom. Click here to register for the virtual forum.
There will be an in-person forum at 6:30pm at the South Elementary School, 171 Ash St. Tours of the current South School building will be provided following the presentation and question and answer session.

Stoughton High's 2024 Hockomock League Scholar Athletes
Congratulations to Stoughton High seniors Aleksandra Lada (pictured left) and Aadil Khond (right) for being selected to represent SHS at the 2024 Hockomock League Scholar Athlete Award Banquet! The Hockomock League Scholar Athlete Award is given to the top-ranked male and female student-athletes in each school and is based on academics, athletic participation, sportsmanship, leadership, and citizenship. The honorees "successfully balanced a demanding academic schedule along with participation in athletics as well as many extra-curricular activities during their high school career." The event took place earlier this month at Lake Pearl in Wrentham. Ally participated in soccer and tennis at SHS and will be attending Vassar College in the fall to study Physics. Aadil participated in soccer, swim, and tennis at SHS and will be attending Georgia Tech in the fall to study Computer Science.
SHS Teacher Featured on Kelly Clarkson Show
Roberto Rivas, a Spanish teacher at Stoughton High, was recently featured on the Kelly Clarkson Show! Mr. Rivas is in his first year of teaching Spanish at SHS. Having moved to the U.S. only a year or so ago, Mr. Rivas was working as a server at IHOP (important to the story) when he first became a substitute and then a full-time teacher for us this school year. Something pretty special happened to him at IHOP; so special, in fact, that he landed on the Kelly Clarkson Show because of it. Watch the clip from the Kelly Clarkson Show below:
A Mini Reunion at the South School
The annual Senior Walk event will be taking place this coming Monday when members of the Stoughton High Class of 2024, dressed in caps and gowns, return to their elementary schools (and new for this year, the middle school as well) one last time before graduating. It is a day when students are able to reconnect with teachers they had when they were younger. There was a mini reunion of sorts earlier this month at the South School when SHS seniors and former South School Sharks Jayvon Bernard and Maddie Reiser were at the South as part of the internship program through Stoughton High. Jayvon (pictured far left) is doing an internship with the SPS communications department and Maddie (pictured second from the right) is doing an internship for elementary education. Jayvon and Maddie are pictured here with Julie Laquidara and Jessica Gabriels, their 4th and 5th grade teachers, and Amy Montello, now a 1st grade teacher at the South, who was their student teacher when they were in 4th grade.
Multicultural Night at the Gibbons School
There was a big turnout at the Multicultural Night at the Gibbons School on Thursday. Open to all SPS families, there were a wide variety of tables and booths to visit, cultures to learn about, and foods to try!

Party All Night Long Team Looking for Volunteers
Party All Night Long (PANL), the annual post graduation event for the newest Stoughton High graduates, is looking for volunteers! The PANL team is looking for non-senior parents, alumni, and community members to help set up, clean up, or work the event. There are plenty of different shifts and tasks available. Click here to see how you can help.
PANL takes place the night of graduation at the O'Donnell Middle School (Thursday, June 6 starting at 11pm and ending at 5am on Friday, June 7). This is a night full of fun and a chance to celebrate graduating in a safe, supervised environment.
