Hamline Family Newsletter
November 2-November 6
A Note From Principal Reilly
Hello Hamline Families,
As you may have heard, due to an increase in the number of Covid cases, the decision was made that we will not be moving to a hybrid model in November or December. The next date for a possible hybrid model, where students would be in the building two days a week, and at home doing distance learning three days per week, would be January 19th.
We are committed to continuing to partner with you and doing our best to provide support along this journey. We welcome feedback, both positive and ways to improve and grow in our work. Right now we have to remember that this is not about trying to be perfect, or being hard on ourselves. This is about staying connected with one another, asking for help when we need it, and knowing that we are stronger together, so lean on in. We are here.
P.S. Remember to vote on Tuesday, November 3rd! Every voice matters!
In Partnership,
Principal Kristin Reilly

Student Competencies developed through Inquiry Based Learning
As we build our inquiry-based learning model at Hamline, we have identified five competencies that we want every student leaving Hamline with: Collaborators, Communicators, Problem Solvers, Creators, and Self and Community Aware. We believe these are the characteristics needed to prepare students for the 21st century.
Free and Reduced Lunch Application
Also, families must complete an application and qualify for free or reduced price meals to qualify for other assistance programs such as Metro Transit’s $1 Ride program, Comcast’s Internet Essentials, and some scholarships for summer camps

Health Start Clinics Are Open
Most SPPS high school Health Start Clinics are open and available for scheduling appointments. Health Start serves students ages 11 and up for urgent in-person mental health care, medication management for depression and anxiety, sexual health concerns, check-ups and vaccines, non-respiratory illness, injuries and asthma follow-up. Please note, the Gordon Parks Health Start Clinic will see students from Pre-Kindergarten through high school.
To gain building access, students should call the phone number posted and explain they are there for a Health Start appointment.
If you have respiratory symptoms, a fever or known exposure to coronavirus, we will refer you to affordable testing and care but will not see you in person. Telehealth services are available. Please call 651-412-8445 to make an appointment. A student does not need to attend the school that the clinic is located in and walk-in appointments are also welcome.

Wellness Matters
How is elections week impacting you? If you are like many parents around the country, you may be feeling anxious and worried about the results of the elections. And as you know, how we feel inside, is definitely sensed by our children. I wanted to remind you that it is perfectly ok to have conversations with your children about the elections. You can talk about what your hopes and fears are and explain the democratic process. This is an opportunity to talk about how your personal values are held by the candidate you support and how those values are translated into policies that impact many people.
This is also a perfect opportunity to remind ourselves and our children that not everyone may be pleased with the outcomes of the elections, however, we must respect the democratic system we have in this country. More than anything, our children need to know that they are safe regardless of the outcomes. Give them the time to express some of their worries and concerns and if you are able to, give them the reassurance they need.
