April 16, 2024
Dear Lake Forest, Lake Bluff, and Knollwood Residents:
Last month, I shared with the community that Dr. Marcus Schabacker had communicated his intent to resign from the District 115 Board of Education. As is required by the Illinois State Board of Education, on Friday, April 12, Dr. Schabacker submitted his official letter of resignation. Dr. Schabacker has served on the District 115 Board of Education with distinction since 2021. We are grateful for his contributions and wish him well in his future endeavors.
Under the Illinois School Code, the responsibility for filling a vacancy, which will occur before the next scheduled school board election, falls to the remaining board members. We have 60 days from the date of resignation (April 12, 2024) to accomplish this, or the responsibility shifts to the Regional Superintendent of Schools. This vacancy is for the remainder of Dr. Schabacker’s term, ending in April 2025, when the position will be up for election.
It is our goal to have a selection process that is as open as possible. To this end, we encourage all interested and qualified individuals to apply. Keep in mind that service on the Board is a significant time commitment. Please read School Board Governance Basics published by the Illinois Association of School Boards to familiarize yourself with the major aspects of School Board service. If you are interested, please use the link below to submit your application.
Completed applications must be received by 5:00 pm on Tuesday, April 23, 2024. Once the Board of Education has reviewed the applications, selected candidates will be interviewed, and an appointee will be installed at the District 115 Board Meeting on June 4, 2024.
It is our goal to identify a person whose talents, interests, and experience will add to and complement those of the existing District 115 Board members. Since only one person can be selected, we hope the process outlined above will give the Board a list of qualified prospects for future community involvement in school initiatives and committees.
If you have questions about the process or what it entails to be a District 115 Board member, please contact Board Clerk Tiana Tolver.
Sincerely,
John Noble
President
