ECAC Family Updates
Nov. 18, 2024

Greetings ECAC Families,
I hope this message finds you well. As we move into the school year, I wanted to address a few important topics regarding our school policies.
Overall, our learners have done well with the new policy; however, recently, we've seen an increase in personal device referrals among our learners. School policy prohibits the use of personal devices during school hours. Not putting personal devices in a Yondr pouch during the school year is blatant insubordination and defiance. While we understand that technology is integral to their lives, students must adhere to our school guidelines. Failure to do so will result in out-of-school suspension. We appreciate your support in reminding your child to lock up their devices during school hours.
Additionally, I would like to stress the importance of following our dress code. The dress code is part of our student code of conduct; please ensure that when your child lives for school, they are dressed appropriately, as if they are reporting to a job. Adhering to the dress code helps create a focused and respectful learning environment. There is a dress code for every job. Here are points of emphasis for our school going forward:
- Crop tops are not permitted. If learners are found wearing these, they will be asked to change.
- Bonnets and durags are not permitted. If a learner wears one of these, they will be asked to remove it. Please ensure your child's hair is presentable when coming to school.
- Pants must be pulled up to the waist. No sagging.
Please review the dress code with your child to ensure they come to school prepared.
Finally, being on time for school is crucial for maximizing learning opportunities. Learners arriving at school after 8:30 AM and 12 PM without a parent or guardian notification will not be let in. Late arrivals can disrupt not only a learner's education but also their classmates. We kindly ask for your cooperation in ensuring your child arrives promptly daily.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership in fostering a positive learning environment for our learners. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Warmly,
Dr. Pames
As we celebrate this season of gratitude, we want to take a moment to express our heartfelt thanks for your continued support and partnership.
Wishing you and your family a warm and joyful
Thanksgiving filled with love, laughter, and cherished moments.

Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS)
Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS) is a framework that guides schools in supporting the success of all learners.
The PBIS committee met on November 13th, and we would like to update you on the upcoming PBIS monthly celebrations!
For November, we will host the Thankful Fest, organized by the JOG classes and Ms. Ackley. It's a wonderful opportunity for our learners to express gratitude and enjoy fun activities and food together.
In December, an exciting celebration is planned, including a gingerbread house contest, gifts for all learners, a paint and sip event featuring mock tails, and a cozy pajama bottoms day. We'll also enjoy a holiday movie along with cookies and hot chocolate.
We welcome parent volunteers for both celebrations, and we would love your support in making these events memorable for our learners!
Meetings are held once a month from 2:45 to 3:25 PM. We would love to have your insights and support in this important initiative.
If you're interested in joining, please let us know!
Attendance Update
We are pleased to report that 11 learners have improved their attendance rates. However, six learners have experienced a drop in their attendance. Advisory teachers will meet individually with each learner to discuss their attendance goals.
Additionally, notification letters will be emailed to the parents of learners with excessive absences or habitual truancy, and attendance plan meetings will be scheduled for habitual truant learners.
We appreciate your support in emphasizing the importance of being present at school. If your child has concerns or is facing challenges affecting their attendance, please contact our family liaison, Mr. Graham, at 216-587-6100 ext 3107 or email at dajunn.graham@mapleschools.com. Together, we can work to improve this trend and help all our students thrive.
As of 11/14/15
đŸ˜€Congratulations to these learners for having 90% or greater attendance or have improved their attendance by 6%:

Expectations for being on the main campus & School IDs
Learners can only be on the main campus or in the school before, during, or after school with permission from Drs. Pames and Perkins or their designees. If a learner is in a school extracurricular activity, they can be on campus after school for practice. This rule is to prevent fights and protect learners. Learners who ride the bus must go straight home when dropped off. Failure to comply may result in exclusion from riding the bus or attending ECAC.
Students must wear their school IDs while on school property and to ride the bus. Only students with IDs and recognized as needing transportation will be allowed to ride the bus, with no exceptions unless approved by Drs. Pames and Perkins or their designees.
Transportation
An ECAC shuttle bus will be available for learners who live on the east side of Maple Heights and have their school IDs. Transportation is a privilege, not a right. Therefore, learners must follow the Student Code of Conduct and Maple Heights staff directives or be excluded from riding the shuttle bus.
The bus will pick learners up for the first session at 7:30AM and drop them off at approximately 11:15 AM. The second session pick-up time is 11:15 AM and drop-off at approximately 2:45 PM. Learners should plan to arrive at the bus stop at least five minutes before the pick-up time.
The bus stop is the driveway at Lee Road and Mustang Way, across from the old nursing home. See the pictures below.
ACTION NEEDED
- All learners must have updated medical and emergency contact information at the start of every new school year. This is a state requirement. Please update and complete all emergency medical information in your Final Forms account https://mapleheights-oh.finalforms.com/ for the 2023-2024 school year. If your scholar needs a physical, the Cleveland Clinic Children's Mobile Health Unit will return this year. Visit our website for more information. Scholars cannot attend field trips without their updated medical and emergency contact information.
- The 1st session is from 8 AM- 11 AM, and the 2nd is from 11:30 AM-2:30 PM. Scholars are expected to attend every day. After 8:30 AM and 12 PM, a parent or caregiver will need to escort the student into the school. If your scholar is absent from school, please contact Mr. Graham, our Family Liaison, at 216-587-6100 ext 3107 with their absence. Parents and caregivers will be notified When scholars miss 38 or more hours of school in a month or 65 hours of school this year. Arriving on time and staying the entire session will ensure that all of our scholars will be on track for graduation.
- Lastly, please download the Maple Heights City School app to stay current about events and receive important alerts. Also, if you are on social media, please follow ECAC on Facebook and Instagram at @ecacmh.
