Tumuaki Korero
Kia ora e te whānau,
It’s hard to believe we’re already halfway through the term — time certainly flies when we’re busy learning and growing together! The cooler autumn weather has well and truly arrived, and our tamariki are making great use of their snug jackets and sturdy shoes from KidsCan. A huge thanks to Ngāti Rārua for supporting our school — the warm kai, especially the hot lunches, are being thoroughly enjoyed on these crisp days.
In our taiao, many of our tamariki have ‘adopted’ a tree and are learning all about their chosen rākau. They’re diving into research to become true kaitiaki, and I’m really looking forward to seeing them share their knowledge and understanding with us all.
This year, we’re celebrating Matariki a little differently. On Thursday 19 June from 11:00am to 2:00pm, we’ll come together as a school whānau for Matariki activities, a shared lunch, and some special time to connect as a community. All friends and whānau are warmly invited — more details can be found further on in this newsletter.
There are also two early morning Matariki celebrations being held at the Wairau Pā — with Rangitāne o Wairau on Friday 20 June at 5:30am and Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Rārua on Sunday 22 June at 5:30am. If you’d like to attend either of these special events, please make sure to register your interest. You can find more information on Seesaw or our school Facebook page.
Over the coming weeks, we are fortunate to have RTLB support in school as we work to embed Te Arawhakamana across our learning spaces. This powerful kaupapa helps our tamariki understand their emotions and develop skills to self-regulate and maintain their mana — while also showing aroha to themselves, to others, and to our environment.
Wishing you all a safe and relaxing long weekend ahead — here’s hoping for a few rays of sunshine to enjoy with whānau.
Me mahi tahi tātau mō te oranga o te katoa.
Working together for all to succeed, nobody is left behind
Ngā manaakitanga,
