eLearning Days
In accordance with eLearning guidelines, students have 5 days after an eLearning day to complete assignments. If a student does not turn in their assignments after day 5, they are marked absent for the day and grades are reflected accordingly in PowerSchool. For the eLearning day on December 23, assignments were due by today. For the eLearning day of January 6, assignments are due Monday, January 13.
BCSD Honor Choir
Congratulations to the Coosa students who were recently selected as members of the Beaufort County Honor Choir. These students will practice with Mrs. Smith and prepare for an exciting concert with students from every school in the district on Hilton Head Island. We are so proud these students will represent Coosa at this incredible annual event!
Schoolwide iReady Goals
As many of you are aware, students complete weekly iReady ELA and Math lessons. These lessons are directly tailored to their needs based on a diagnostic assessment they take 3 times a year. Students took their 2nd diagnostic assessment before the break and those reports came home today with report cards.
Our school sets academic achievement goals for all subjects. Along with these goals are action steps to help us achieve them. These goals are posted in our classrooms, pod areas and main hallways to help us monitor our journey toward reaching them. One of the action steps for reaching these goals is the incorporation of the program, iReady. More specifically, we set and track monthly the percentage of students that successfully complete the minimum amount of iReady lessons (typically 2 per week on average). These lessons are predominantly completed after whole group instruction and during the time the teacher is working with small groups for acceleration/remediation---more specially known as center rotations. In some instances, students are asked to work on these lessons at home, as the teacher is always the best instructional tool for our students.
For the past three months, we have been providing rewards for those that have completed and passed the minimum amount of math lessons for the month. Those school -level rewards for the months of October, November, and December have been out of uniform passes, brag tags and ice cream. Our Student Lighthouse Team has brainstormed ideas for the remaining rewards for each month.
With this being said, we highly encourage you to ask your student about their iReady work throughout the week and have them show you their account.
Habits for a Happy Home
Begin with the End in Mind - Setting Goals
This week’s focus is Begin with the End in Mind, which teaches students to set personal goals and make decisions that align with those goals. We encourage you to help your child to write down short-term and long-term goals they want to achieve, whether it’s learning a new skill or improving their grades. Break these goals into smaller steps and celebrate each achievement along the way. Encourage them to track their progress, so they can stay motivated to reach their end goal.
Coosa Running Club Wants Your Shoes
Are you looking to clean out those unwanted shoes this holiday season? Looking for a place to donate them? Look no further, the Coosa Running Club will take them all! For a 5th year, the Coosa Running Club is teaming up with Grounded Running to collect shoes for those in need. Students can bring in any type of shoes in any condition during the month of January. With your help, and the support of our community, we have raised over 5,000 pairs of shoes! There will be boxes in the front lobby in January for shoes to be placed.
District Dash 5K and Coosa's Family Fitness Night
During the month of January, our school has additional activities focused on Wellness. This year, from January 21-January 30, we will be teaching students about Healthy Heart Habits in collaboration with the American Heart Association. Please be on the lookout for more information in next week's Bobcat Brief.
Also, on January 30th, Coosa was scheduled to host our 3rd Annual Wellness Night which focuses on engaging our families in a Wellness Walk along with exercise activities along the walk. However, before winter break, Beaufort County School District announced an event, the District Dash 5K, which is similar to ours. Therefore, we have made the tough decision to postpone our event and join the district wide initiative on Saturday, March 15. Our hope is that many of our families will come out to represent Coosa at this event.
Beaufort County Schools will be hosting the District Dash 5K in conjunction with Palmetto Running Company’s existing 5K on March 15, 2025 in Bluffton, SC.
Students and families are encouraged to participate with their school group. At registration, participants can select the school they are supporting. Multiple selections can be made with students attending different schools in one family.
- Schools with the highest number of participants will be eligible for a prize in support of their MUSC Wellness Program.
- No race day registration.
- Race packet pick up at Palmetto Running Company (Bluffton) 3/14/25 or 1 hour before race, 3/15/25.
