Kia ora Koutou Whānau,
I hope you have all had a wonderful week.
We have had our Year 7 / 8 students off on camp in Wellington this week. They return today with plenty of stories of fun and games. I hope you have enjoyed seeing some of the photos that have been released on Facebook.
Last night the NZEI Teachers union announced a strike action day this Thursday 16th March. This is a response to the government's offers to settle both the Principal's and teacher's respective collective agreements. The offers do not meet our expectations, nor make sufficient steps toward the changes we need for our children to succeed. We don’t take strike action lightly, and we know it impacts our community, however, we will join PPTA secondary school teachers, ECE, and Area schools in holding joint action across Aotearoa New Zealand on Thursday, March 16th.
The decision is based on the following:
New Zealand children need a quality education system and we want to give that to them.
Unfortunately, the funding and resourcing for our schools are not enough for us to give the time we would like to support all of our kids to thrive.
We need to attract and retain educators by ensuring that teaching is a valued and attractive profession.
Today will mark the last day for one of our Senior Leaders, Candice Bailey, who has accepted a position working as a tutor in the Early Childhood Education Training program at WITT - Te Pukenga. Candice has been a highly skilled and valued member of the IPS team for a number of years now and will be greatly missed. On behalf of the team here at IPS, I would like to thank Candice for all of her input and investment in the growth and development of our tamariki as well as our staff. The Senior Leadership made up of Karen Patterson, myself (Phillip Reade) and Michael Bucksmith will continue to support the staff, students, and families as usual.
FREE BRASS & GUITAR MUSIC LESSONS - AFTER SCHOOL
Brass - Classes will begin Thursday 16 March at 8am
Guitar - Classes will begin Wednesday 15 March at 3pm
This year we have applied for hours for classical guitar and brass lessons.
Students will be grouped into inability/age groups. All students will require their own instrument to enable practice at home etc. While the 1/2hr lessons are ‘free’, there will be a charge of $10 to cover the cost of photocopying etc for the year.
Should your child be interested in attending these free ‘half hour lessons’ to be held after school, please contact the office to enrol office@inglewood.school.nz.
School Crossings - Miro & Kelly Streets
We have our lovely Zebra crossing up and running now. Please read the information below to remind ourselves how we use the crossing safely for pedestrians and drivers.
Official information from Waka Kotahi - Road Code
Give way at pedestrian crossings
Pedestrian crossings are intersections where people on foot have priority. If you are riding, you must give way at a pedestrian crossing. Slow down and be ready to stop for any pedestrians on a crossing or waiting to cross. There are a number of different types of pedestrian crossings.
Marked pedestrian (zebra) crossings
At zebra crossings with no traffic island, stop and give way to people walking on any part of the crossing or who are waiting to cross.
Some zebra crossings have a traffic island in the middle. Stop and give way to people walking on your half of the road or who are waiting to cross.
School patrols sometimes manage a zebra crossing. Stop when a sign is held out and wait until it is withdrawn.
Kea crossings (school crossing points)
A kea crossing is a temporary school patrol crossing without a marked pedestrian (zebra) crossing. Stop when the sign is held out and wait until it is withdrawn.

School Roll
Out of Zone Ballot for Term 2 2023
Enrolment at Inglewood School is governed by an enrolment scheme, details of which are available on the school website or from the school office.
The board is now inviting applications from parents who wish to enrol their children at Inglewood Primary School starting within Term 2 2023.
All applications must be received by 3pm Monday 27 March for Term 2 2023. If a ballot for out of zone places is required, it will be held on Wednesday 29 March 2023. Parents will be informed of the outcome of the ballot within three school days of the ballot being held.
The board has determined that 20 places from Year 1-8 are likely to be available for out-of-zone students within Term 2 2023. The exact number of places will depend on the number of applications received from students who live within the school’s home zone. Parents of students who live within the home zone and intend enrolling their child at any time during the year should notify the school to assist the school to plan appropriately.
The application form for enrolment is available from the school website, or from the school office.
Please note, that if the number of out-of-zone applications exceeds the number of places available, students will be selected by ballot. Parents will be informed of the outcome of the ballot within three school days of the ballot being held.
Details relating to the next enrolment period Term 3 2023 will be published June 2023.
