CELEBRATIONS
Great things are happening at WCS!
This Friday our Special Olympics athletes went to McMann Field in Bath to compete in the spring Special Olympics. We had students compete in Track & Field events all day. When they returned, the whole school got a chance to gather and welcome them back with applause!
NO SCHOOL MONDAY: MEMORIAL DAY
There is no school on Monday, 5/27 as we pause to recognize and honor those who gave their lives in the line of service.
DECADES DAY
In celebration of our students demonstrating excellent citizenship and earning over 900 Woolwich Way Tickets, we will be holding Decades Day on Friday, 5/31. Staff and students are invited to dress in the fashion of their favorite decade and the school will be treated to a dance party that day.
LOST & FOUND
Please check the Lost & Found, located in the school entryway. All unclaimed items will be donated after the last day of school in June.
GO2SCIENCE
On Tuesday, the students in grades kindergarten, first, and second enjoyed an amazing day with Beth and Curtis from Go2Science!
Go2Science brings real-world science research adventures to our K-2 students. Although our time with Beth and Curtis is typically spent in a web-based curriculum format, this past Tuesday we were fortunate enough to delve into hands-on, in-person learning experiences with them.
Students became paleontologists and explored the world of fossils. We even had a life-sized replica of the T-Rex skull that can be found in the American Museum of Natural History in New York City!
Go2 Science has been an integral part of our studies over the past years and students were very engaged and excited as Beth and Curtis rank close to celebrity status at WCS!
5th GRADE VISITS CHEWONKI
Thank you to our PTA for making the 5th grade trip to Chewonki happen another year. We were able to learn about estuaries, while in an estuary, with interactive experiences happening all around us. The classes completed various team challenges that required collaboration, determination, and problem solving. There was also a bit of play and exploration throughout the day. "It was the best day of school ever!" We hope to do it again next year.

THINGS TO TALK ABOUT
- Maine DOE has launched a new Maine Outdoor Learning Initiative portal to help families easily access available programs and identify opportunities for their children to participate. All programs are at no cost to families, include free transportation, and are designed for students who face economic or other barriers to experiencing high-quality outdoor learning experiences.
Freshman schedules were printed and sent home with 8th grade students this Thursday. Be on the look-out for these documents in backpacks. An MHS Guidance Counselor will be at WCS on Tuesday, 6/28 to make any Add/Drop changes with students. Parents should contact Erin Sturgeon with any questions: esturgeon@rsu1.org
The District Budget Meeting for registered voters to approve the proposed budget will be held Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at 6:00PM at Morse High School, 826 Shipbuilder Drive, Bath. Voter registration will begin at 5:30PM. We hope to see you there!
In accordance with School Board policy, the following promotional announcements have been included at the request of the sponsoring organization because they may be of interest to students and their families. These activities are not sponsored by the school, and inclusion of these announcements does not constitute endorsement of the organizations or activities by the school.
USDA SUN BUCKS BENEFITS
SUN Bucks will help families receive $120.00 for each of their school aged children. If eligible, you can use SUN Bucks benefits to buy foods like fruits, vegetables, meat, whole grains, and dairy at grocery stores, farmers markets, and other places that accept EBT benefits.
Your child is eligible for SUN Bucks if your household already participates in SNAP, TANF, FDPIR, or attends a school that offers National School Lunch or School Breakfast Program and your household income meets the requirements for free or reduced-price school meals.
Many families will get SUN Bucks automatically if you are getting other benefits, but some families may need to apply for the program. If your family already participates in SNAP, TANF, FDPIR, or is Homeless, Migrant or receives MaineCare with a verified annual income under 185% of the Federal Poverty Level, your child will be automatically enrolled in the program. If you are not automatically enrolled and believe your children are eligible, you can get a SUN Bucks application, at the above website. You will not need to provide any other documents of information to apply. Applications must be received by August 15th to qualify SUN Bucks.
• For households that are currently enrolled in SNAP, the benefits will be automatically uploaded to their existing EBT card known as the PineTree card.
• Children who were previously recipients of P-EBT and are not enrolled in SNAP will receive their benefits on their existing P-EBT card.
• Children eligible for SUN Bucks, not enrolled in SNAP and who have never been enrolled in P-EBT, will receive a PineTree card containing the allocated distribution. This is important as some households may need to request replacement cards, to access these benefits. Benefits must be activated within 45 days of receipt, and are removed from the card 122 days after issuance regardless if they have been used.
We anticipate the Notice of Decision will be mailed to households, in mid May. Please wait to see if you get a letter before you do anything else. If you do not receive a letter, you may reach out to the number/email listed in the link above. Applications will be available in late May.
