Dear LWSH Families and Caregivers,
Greetings LWSH Families, Caregivers, and Scholars,
Our first marking period of the year is coming to an end as we get ready for our fall break. We would like to thank our families, scholars, staff, and community partners for a very successful start to our year! We were able to provide each one of our scholars a Yondr pouch for the year to ensure we maintain a cell-phone free school environment; each grade has had at least 2 MetroHealth experiences to immerse them into the healthcare industry; we have had an overwhelming number of students apply to be a part of Upward Bound to get them prepared for college; and we just completed our Annual White Coat Ceremony for seniors to kick-off their internship assignments. Now it is time to take a step back and enjoy the start of fall! Our school will be closed the week of October 7th and staff will return on Monday, October 14th, and students return Monday, October 21st. October 21st will be a whole-campus day and MetroHealth will be closed.
What we need for all students to prepare for upon their return is our Senior Readiness Day and PSAT /NMSQT that will take place on Tuesday, October 22nd. All 9th - 11th graders will report to the Main Campus no later than 9am to take the fall PSAT/ NMSQT college board exams. It is important that our scholars do their absolute best on the test so that we can use the data to help them achieve a high score when they are juniors taking the SAT in the spring. The higher your SAT score, the more colleges and universities you can get into and the more scholarship money you can attain. Everyone can practice by creating a college board account and accessing Bluebook where they can find 4 full-length practice SAT exams and review their scores to understand what they need to work on. Over the break, students can also continue working on IXL to target needed foundational skills or get PSAT / SAT practice.
While our 9th - 11th graders will be taking the PSAT / NMSQT, our seniors will report to MetroHealth for a College Readiness Day. Seniors will obtain their FAFSA IDs, write college entry essays, and apply to at least one college or university. We strongly believe that this process has prepared our scholars for post-secondary opportunities, so they are ready before graduation.
We wish everyone a safe and pleasant fall break! Please be on the lookout for any upcoming IVRs via email and our monthly family newsletters so that you can receive the most up-to-date information. As always, we appreciate your collaboration and involvement because it takes a village to raise a child, and we are happy that you chose our school community to be a part of that village! For questions or more information, contact the school at 216-838-7100.
Sincerely,
Juliet King
Your Proud LWSH Principal
