BOOK FAIR Updates...
Kids will be reading this summer! We were just shy of our goal of 1,500 books - 1,403. But the best part was the excitement the kids had for the books they purchased! That speaks volumes about our students’ love of reading!
This fair is a great learning experience for kids as they figure tax into their purchases. While still a challenge, they are getting the hang of it!
On a very bright note, I am partnering with our wonderful PTSA to help provide books for the new book vending machine. All purchases that were rounded up went to Share the Fair (formerly All for Books). That money was then used to purchase books from our fair, which will go in the new book vending machine! Everyone was very generous and slightly more than $125 was raised! Thank you! Plus, PTSA will receive my Scholastic Dollars for future online purchases as well!
Finally, if you didn’t get a chance to pick up that special book or if money remains on your child’s eWallet, there’s still time to purchase! Visit our online book fair through May 7 and explore more than 5,000 titles! All purchases benefit our school and will go to meeting our goal of 1,500 books. Remember, all book orders $25 or more will ship free of charge to your home! Visit https://www.scholatic.com/bf/sfbobcats. Thank you for supporting our spring book fair! I’m already looking forward to our Fall Book Fair next October and seeing families again!
Our motto in school this week is:
I am someone people can count on.
This week's goal is for students to understand that being someone people can count on means you act with integrity. Integrity is a big concept for students and can be hard to understand initially. In school, we explain that having integrity means doing the right thing, even when no one is watching.
Such as:
•Being accountable for mistakes.
•Following through on promises made to others.
•Not spreading unkind gossip about other people.
•Returning found items because it's the right thing to do and not expecting a reward.
Integrity is choosing your thoughts and actions
based on values rather than personal gain.
-Chris Karcher
Integrity is a lot for children to understand. It can be helpful to ask your child what they think integrity means and tell them what it means to you. If needed, these two examples can be helpful:
1.Pretend you found $20 in the bathroom at school, and no one saw you pick it up. You have a choice to make: you can keep the money or give it to the school office. Even though you can keep the money without getting caught, a person with integrity would want whoever lost the money to get it back.
2.A friend may gossip to you about another person, and you may be tempted to tell more people what you just heard. However, as tempting as it can be to gossip, you will always feel better when you act with integrity and treat other people the way you would want to be treated.
Wishing your family a wonderful week,
Danna Evans All Things E.Q.
From the Desk of Nurse Wetzel
Hello,
The end of the school year is quickly approaching. If your child keeps medication in the nurse’s office, please remember to pick up your child’s medication(s) on the last day of school, Thursday, May 16th at 12pm. If you are unable to pick up your child’s medication by 12:00 pm on Thursday May16th, please speak with the school nurse to make alternative arrangements.
No medications will be held over until August.
Any medications left in the Health Office will be discarded.
Students are not permitted to pick up or transport medications from/to school.
New doctors’ orders and new medications will be required for each school year. For your convenience, forms can be found here on the bottom of my Health Center Website: https://www.dvusd.org/Page/42482
If your child will need medication during the 2024-25 school year, please have your child’s healthcare provider complete a medication administration form during the summer, which can be found on my school nurse website https://www.dvusd.org/Page/42482
and provide it to the school nurse along with the corresponding medication in August.
It has been a pleasure to work with your children this year and I hope you all have a very happy and healthy summer. Thank you very much in advance for your cooperation.
Sincerely,
Christine Wetzel RN
