Colton Hills School Bulletin
3 October 2023
Introduction by Mr S Williams, Deputy Headteacher
It has been another action packed couple of weeks here at Colton Hills after a great start to the academic year. Our sports teams have recorded some great results, once again showing the sporting prowess of our students. We have had trips to local theatres and launched our first skiing trip in recent history!
We also held our open events last week, welcoming prospective students and their families to our school to see all Colton Hills has to offer. We were delighted with the turn-out and look forward to welcoming those students in September 2024. Our students continue to be great ambassadors for the school, both whilst in the building and when representing the school in the wider community.
Finally, October is Black History Month and as ever, we will be celebrating this through assemblies, competition and activities in form time and through a social media campaign.
Sixth Form Head Students and Prefects
We are proud to introduce this year's Sixth Form Student Leadership Team featuring our Year 12 and 13 prefects. Congratulations to our Head Students, David and Faidha as well as our Deputy Heads, Vaishali and Fadhila on their appointment.
Black History Month 2023
German Exchange Students Visit
In the last couple of weeks, we hosted our German exchange students from IGS Helpsen, which is our partner school in Germany. We have partnered with them for years and part of the programme includes their students spending a week at Colton Hills with their peers.
They spent time in the performing arts workshop, played table tennis and also attended an origami team-building session in the Art department. During the day trips, Ms Heeley and our Colton Hills students took our German visitors to Liverpool to wander around the Maritime Museum located at the Royal Albert Docks and soaked in the sights of the city, clocking in many steps!
The trip would not be complete without a whistle stop tour to the capital! In London they visited Buckingham Palace and also the Natural History Museum. They were very lucky with the weather and we hope they had an enjoyable stay with us. Auf Wiedersehen!
Summer Fete raised over £1000 for school charity
Keith said: "Thank you for arranging the fete and helping to raise the awareness of Gelliwig to the students, who hopefully will have learnt a little about the origins of the charity, which stemmed from the amazing work contributed by two ex-teachers who have sadly passed on."
School trip to the theatre
On Tuesday, 26th September, our Performing Arts department visited Wolverhampton Grand with a group of students to watch the National Theatre's production of Ocean at the End of the Lane. It was a stunning visual performance with physical theatre, puppetry and took our students into a world of imagination.
Our students were enthralled by the performance and were a credit to the school with their excellent behaviour. "My favourite part was when there were doors everywhere & she went in one & came from another. It was scary as she popped up randomly when the lights kept flashing in the background." Paaras Kumar, Year 9
Open Events at Colton Hills
We held our Open Evening on Wednesday, 27th September and it was amazing to welcome all the families to our school. We had many students volunteers taking the visitors around on their tours, chatting with the subject teachers and students, as well as tasting some delicious food in our dining hall. Our student volunteers were outstanding and did the school proud. Special mention goes to our 6th Form Head Students and Year 7 pupils who addressed the audience in the theatre with confidence, as part of the Headteacher's presentation.
The deadline for secondary school application is 31st October and we look forward to welcoming some familiar faces back to Colton Hills next September!
