Noon Message to Families
November 11, 2024

Cedar Hill ISD Families & Community,
Last Thursday marked the one year anniversary of the citizens of Cedar Hill making their voices heard with the passage of the Voter Approved Tax Rate Election (VATRE) by a nearly 2-to-1 margin.
This was a historic step for Cedar Hill Independent School District as it allowed us to increase security in the district.
We were able to hire nine new Cedar Hill ISD Police Officers, and we now have enough officers to have one assigned to each campus.
The state mandate called for an armed security guard at each campus, but at CHISD, we went a step further than that, ensuring that each campus has a fully certified and trained peace officer.
We were able to increase pay for many of our teachers and staff, in order to retain and recruit quality employees and remain competitive with neighboring districts.
Multiple studies have shown that teachers who stay on a campus longer yields better educational outcomes and test results.
We weren’t able to increase pay for everyone, and that’s because of two key factors – no increase in funding from the state and a decline in enrollment. These two issues are creating budgetary constraints for independent school districts throughout Texas.
For the first one, we must encourage our legislators from both political parties of the importance to increase student funding for the first time since before the COVID-19 Pandemic, when they begin the 89th Texas Legislature in January.
For the second, we have already established focus groups and plans not only to bring in new scholars, but to retain the current scholars. Early figures show that the level of decrease in scholars has flattened out.
Today is Veterans Day. I am very proud that many of our campuses will be hosting a Veterans Day program. Throughout the football season, we were able to honor our veterans with Military Appreciation recognition before the games, thanks to a sponsorship from Synergistic Solutions LLC.
Our veterans sacrifice so much, and they ask for little in return. As the popular saying goes, ‘we don’t know them all, but we owe them all’.
Horns Up!
