Around the School Spotlight
On Thursday, our students earned their “Celebrity” Games prize from the Fun Run! During the morning, we had “celebrities” from the District Office (including our Superintendent!), the Sherwood community, Hawks View staff, PAC and the High School Leadership class join us for classroom games. Seeing adults, high schoolers and our elementary students all having fun together was definitely a highlight from the week!
We had our Kindergarten Open House this Thursday and it’s always enjoyable to welcome our new families and students to Hawks View! We also get many returning families and we are grateful to continue those partnerships. Our kindergarten team works hard on preparing for this event and we think our newest students had a great time!
Kindergarten Dual Language Immersion (DLI) Program
The Sherwood School District is excited to continue our Spanish/English Dual Language Immersion Program for the 2024-25 school year. We are in our fifth year of the program, and have classes in Kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade, and 3rd grade. A Dual Language Immersion Program has the goal of promoting bilingualism, bi-literacy, and socio-cultural competence.
Applications for each year’s new Kindergarten class as well as any other grade openings are accepted each spring. If you applied last year, you will remain on the waiting list and do not need to re-apply.
Steps to apply for the Dual Language Immersion Program
Enroll the student in the Sherwood School District-see our Enrollment Process Page.
Fill out the DLI Application-2024/2025 application
If accepted, sign and return the participation agreement.
And The Winner Is....
This week was National School Breakfast Week, celebrating the importance of a nutritious school breakfast in fueling students for success. Studies show that students who eat school breakfast are more likely to:
- Reach higher levels of achievement in reading and math
- Score higher on standardized tests
- Have better concentration and memory
- Be more alert
- Maintain a healthy weight
Nutrition Services hosted a raffle contest this week for students participating in school breakfast. The winner of the Pac-Man Pocket Player (provided by our partners at Domino's) is: Aaron Ramirez Zurita! Congratulations Aaron!
Ramadan
Ramadan is observed Sunday, March 10th through Tuesday, April 9th this year. We know we have students at Hawks View who will participate in Ramadan. If a family is interested in making an alternative plan for their child(ren), particularly during lunch, please let us know. We are happy to partner with you!
Electronic Report Cards - Starting Tri 2
Hello SSD Families,
The Sherwood School District will provide families with electronic report cards for all students, starting with the report cards for Trimester 2. As we move to this paperless option, report card delivery to all families will default to "paperless-only," and paper report cards will no longer be mailed home.
Additionally, we will be implementing a new platform called ParentSquare to facilitate digital report card delivery. Once grades are finalized, you will receive a secure link by email/text to access your child’s report cards using the ParentSquare website or mobile app. Login instructions will come closer to the report card delivery date. Report cards will also continue to be available through ParentVUE.
If you would prefer to receive a paper copy of your child’s report card, you can opt out of the electronic-only option in your ParentVUE account. For opt-out instructions, please visit our website at https://sherwood.k12.or.us/electronic-report-cards/ or contact your school office for assistance.

State Testing Notice
Oregon's Statewide Assessments in science, mathematics, and English language arts will begin in April for students in grades 3-8.
Scheduled testing will take place during the school day. For additional information on the State Assessments from the Oregon Department of Education, please review the following link.
While no single test can give a complete picture of your child’s progress, statewide tests provide information to students and families, as well as to educators and administrators, about what educational approaches are working and where additional resources are needed. Your child’s participation is important to ensure schools and districts receive the targeted resources they need to help all students succeed. Districts are rated on their participation levels as well as student performance on this exam.
Oregon law (ORS 329.479) permits parents and adult students to annually opt-out of Oregon’s statewide summative tests in English Language Arts and Math by submitting a form to the school the student attends. If you decide to opt your child out of the math and/or ELA state assessments, please submit the following form to your school front office by Friday, April 12 to best support our school with planning for this year's testing schedule:
Superintendent Search - Share Your Feedback With Our School Board!
The SSD Board of Directors is seeking family, staff, and community feedback related to the hiring of the next superintendent for our district. Your feedback is important to our Board of Directors as they determine the essential superintendent qualities and qualifications that will guide the hiring process.
For those interested in sharing in-person feedback, we will be hosting a Community Feedback Forum on Monday, March 11, 6:30-8:00pm at the Archer Glen Cafeteria; all stakeholders are welcome.
Additionally, an anonymous feedback survey is now available (survey closes March 18). Please see the links below to complete this survey.
