Hello North Syracuse Central School District Parents, Guardians, Teachers and Staff!

We are sending this newsletter out a day early this week because at this time tomorrow, when we would typically be sending it, we will be recognizing the Cicero-North Syracuse High School Class of 2021. It has been a unique year and a trying one for all so we are incredibly proud to be able to give the Class of 2021 a somewhat traditional graduation ceremony. Cicero-North Syracuse High School Class of 2021, we are proud of you and look forward to seeing what you will accomplish. Click here for a list of this year's graduates.

With graduation, we will say farewell to the 2020-2021 school year. It has certainly been one for the record books. There are no words that can express my sincere gratitude to each and every student, family member and employee, for what you have endured throughout this pandemic. Please remember that we made it through this by working together!

For those of you not working over the summer, I wish you rest, relaxation and rejuvenation. For those working throughout the summer, I hope you are able to spend some time with family and friends and enjoy the slower pace of these days. We will continue to publish this newsletter throughout the summer but will not do so on a weekly basis. Enjoy your summer and stay well!

The Cicero-North Syracuse High School Class of 2021 graduation will take place on Friday, June 25, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. The ceremony will take place at the Bragman Stadium on the Cicero-North Syracuse High School (6002 Route 31, Cicero) Campus. Those who normally pass through the area are being asked to find an alternate route, if possible, to avoid delays and traffic congestion. Heavy traffic is expected and traffic may be rerouted. Any questions regarding parking may be directed to the High School.

The Cicero-North Syracuse High School marching band, under the Direction of Karen Seamans, recently performed at the Malta House Senior Living Apartment Building in North Syracuse. Students wanted to give back to the community, especially the high school seniors who have not had many opportunities to get out in the past year. The band performed songs such as Apache, Don’t Stop Believin’, Happy and Sweet Caroline.

Karen Calkins, President of the Northstars Band Parents group, attended the event and shared photos. She said that the students had a great time performing and the residents were so pleased! The performance was also featured on NewsChannel 9's "Tell Me Something Good" segment. Click here to watch the segment online.

Students in Lisa Courtright's first-grade class at Smith Road Elementary School had a chance this week to celebrate the final days of their crazy 2020-2021 school year. Ms. Courtright surprised her students with t-shirts made especially for them saying, "I survived First Grade 2020-2021" and left the shirts on their desks as a remembrance of the year. Ms. Courtright shared her photos and said, "I'm so proud of our students for adapting to the new way of learning this year!"

Children in our community do not need to go hungry this summer. For many kids, summertime means food, friends and fun. For families who count on school breakfast and lunch, however, the summer months can be stressful and family food budgets have to be stretched even further. The US Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Summer Food Service Program helps fill the hunger gap.

Free Summer Meal Program Details:

• Meals are FREE to children and teens ages 18 and younger.
• Free summer meals will help families save money and stretch their already tight food budgets.
• Food served is healthy and follows USDA nutrition guidelines.
• No application or proof of income needed. You can just pick up meals at a summer meals site in your community.

Because this school year has been so different, it has been challenging to get new photos for our District website at www.nscsd.org and other publications. So...we need your help! We would love to share your photos of at home school environments. If you're willing to share, please send your high quality images using the link below. We'll be using your photos in this newsletter and other publications throughout the school year. Additionally, high resolution, horizontal photos will be considered for the District website. Jennifer Fetterman, a teacher at the North Syracuse Early Education Program and the mom of Sydney Fetterman (1st Grade) at Smith Road Elementary School, shared a picture of her daughter on the last day of school.

NSCSD Board of Education member, Robert Crabtree, shared the above photos of an outdoor concert/end of year celebration he attended at Allen Road Elementary School. Mr. Crabtree, a retired NSCSD teacher, shared the photos and thanked Principal Lafountain for inviting him to attend the event. He also commented on the event saying, "It was amazing to be there with so many talented students."
