Word of the Day
Vocabulary acquisition plays an important role on academic success, so we are beginning to implement a Word of the Day on our morning announcements. Each day we will use a word from a different grade level for all students to hear. Ask your student about our word of the day and see if they can tell you what it means, use it in a sentence, or even discuss alternate uses of the word with them.
Our words for this month include:
feeble, autumn, adjust, banner, ambition, analyze, frigid, burst, appetite, shelter, prevent, ascend, gorge, goal, bashful, balance, primary, annual, retain
Papa John's Tuesday

Pick-Up and Drop-Off Reminder
If you are using the drop off/pickup line for students, please move through the line as directed and let students out. If you need to exit your vehicle for any reason, please park in the parking lot and walk up to get your student. For student safety, use the sidewalk and crosswalk area when walking to and from the parking lot.

Nurse's Corner
Handwashing is one of the most effective ways to help prevent the spread of germs. It’s never a bad time to teach (or reteach!) kids proper handwashing procedures. Here are 5 simple steps to make handwashing easy and fun to remember:
WET your hands with water.
LATHER your hands with soap.
SCRUB your hands for 20 seconds. Singing Happy Birthday twice, The ABC song and Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star are all songs that can be sung while scrubbing. Remember the back of hands, between fingers and under fingernails. Germs are good at hiding!
RINSE your hands under running water.
DRY your hands with a clean towel.
Be a good role model. Kids look to the adults around them to set the standard. By washing your hands frequently throughout the day with the proper technique, sets a powerful example and shows that you think the habit is important.
Remind them often to wash their hands. It’s easy to remember when you see the dirt on your hands, but germs are invisible to the naked eye. Prompt them throughout the day to wash their hands especially before eating, after using the restroom and after blowing their nose.
Good hand hygiene will help combat the common illnesses that we see in the fall/winter months. Currently we are seeing the common cold, a stomach virus, strep throat and fall allergies.
Thank you for all that you do to keep our students safe and healthy.
Enjoy the beautiful fall weather,
Anna Robinette, RN
Counseling with Compassion
Character Strong
This month we are talking about responsibility. One way to define responsibility is “taking action and understanding the impact of our choices.” Taking action can mean doing the right thing or completing the tasks you have been assigned. Understanding the impact of our choices means that our actions matter. Positive and responsible actions can help people and irresponsible actions can hurt others.
Additionally, the month of October is known as National Bullying Prevention Month. Help us support this cause by wearing your orange on October 16th. Check out the attached flyer!
Hearts Apart
Fort Leavenworth Unified School District 207 offers a wonderful program we refer to as "Hearts Apart." Hearts Apart is designed to help students cope with the deployment of a parent. Your permission is required for your child to participate.
Hearts Apart provides students and families with a sense of community and belonging district wide. This is a great opportunity for spouses and their children to enjoy good food, relax, and enjoy the conversation and company of others. These events help children and their families understand that they are not alone in their experiences.

Lunch Menu
You can find the breakfast and lunch menu on our website each month. We also have printed copies available at the front office.
