Blue Ash Elementary Weekly News
Principal's Message
Dear Blue Ash Elementary Families,
I hope this message finds you well! As we look ahead to the upcoming week, I want to remind you that there will be no school on Monday and Tuesday due to teacher professional development. We appreciate your understanding as our educators take this time to enhance their skills and strategies for our students.
Our Parent-Teacher Conferences will begin on Thursday, October 17th in the evening, with additional times on October 24th and 25th. We encourage all families to attend as this is a wonderful opportunity to discuss your child's progress and collaborate on ways to support their learning. If you still need to schedule a time to meet with your child's teacher, please reach out to them directly. We look forward to seeing you and continuing to partner together.
Lastly, we are excited to announce that the much anticipated Book Fair will also kick off on Friday! This is a fantastic chance for students to explore new books and foster a love for reading. All classes will have an opportunity to shop during the day and we will be open the evening of October 24th from 4-7 to allow families to shop. Thank you to Mrs. Kolde and Mrs. Niehaus for supporting this event.
Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to seeing our students on Wednesday.
Warm regards,
Natalie Jimenez

VETERANS DAY PARADE!
Blue Ash Elementary is looking forward to honoring veterans on Monday, November 11, and is inviting any veteran who has a connection to a BAE student to participate in a short car parade. If you or a family member are interested in participating in the parade, please RSVP using this Google form and line your car up at 9:45 a.m. (no earlier) on Monday, November 11. There will be signage outside for where to wait before the parade begins. The parade will begin at 10:15. Please see the link below for a map of the parade path and where BAE students will be lined up. Your RSVP is due Friday, November 1st.
The cars participating in the parade will be directed to drive around BAE where the students will be outside lined up to see the veterans. We want the event to be meaningful to those involved, so please plan to allow the veteran to be in the passenger seat to engage with the students. Veterans must have a driver to participate. We look forward to a wonderful patriotic celebration of these brave heroes!
Map of parade route and where students will be lined up
Whether or not you can make the parade, please consider creating a slide to celebrate your service, or the service of a loved one, to be shared in all of our classrooms. By clicking on this link, you will be directed to make a copy of the template slide in Google to complete. Please share the slide with Bethany Mulkie using her email mulkieb@sycamoreschools.org as she will create the video compilation to be shared with students and families on Monday, November 11. SLIDES ARE DUE BY Friday, NOVEMBER 1st! Last, we are asking BAE students to wear red, white, and/or blue on this special day! Thank you for your service, the service of your loved ones, and for allowing us to honor you, once again.
Kindergarten Enrollment Process
We want to inform you about a potential change to the kindergarten enrollment process. The Sycamore Board of Education is considering moving the cutoff date for kindergarten eligibility from September 30 to August 1, starting in the 2025-26 school year. This change is intended to better align with academic expectations and ensure students are developmentally ready for kindergarten.
The Board will discuss and vote on this proposal at the October 30 meeting. The meeting will be held at 7:00 pm at the Kenwood Learning Commons (11120 Kenwood Rd).
For questions, please contact Assistant Superintendent Brad Lovell at lovellb@sycamoreschools.org.
Champions Open House!
On October 24th from 5:00-6:00PM in the cafeteria, our Before and After School Program, Champions, will be holding an Open House. Their exciting clubs will be showcased so you can see what they offer! All children in attendance can join in on the clubs this day to see which ones they would like to potentially join. If you have any questions, reach out to Robin Tinsley at Robin.Tinsley@discoverchampions.com.

This week in Letter Builders we will be talking about Big Line and Big Curve actions. Using 1 Big Line, students learn positions in space by moving a Big Line in relation to their body. The position words taught are top, middle, bottom; vertical- stand up/horizontal-lie down; over/under; front/back; and in/out. Using 2 Big Curves, students learn positions in space by moving the curves in relation to each other (object-to-object) to make a letter, number (zero), and shape (circle); and in relation to their body (object-to-self): up/down, happy/sad, rainbow.

Active Aves!!
Active Aves is a recess walking/running program that allows kids to set and meet goals while having fun and being active outside with their friends. Kids run (or walk) laps around the playground, each of which is marked on a card. When kids complete a card (15 laps) they earn a foot charm to mark their accomplishment. Each card completed by the student will earn them an entry into a drawing to win a prize in the fall and spring sessions. Top girl and boy will also get a prize and the top class from each grade will get a popsicle party at the end of the year. You can help by volunteering to mark laps on the cards and cheer the kids on! Indoor recess cancels sessions.
