A Message From the Principal
Greetings Salk Students and Families,
We have had a wonderful first week here at Salk Middle School! Please take a moment to review these reminders as we continue our journey into the 24-25 school year.
SMS Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up Information
Drop-off/Pick-up: Doors open at 7:50am, students are welcome into the building at that time.
We ask that individuals dropping off their student at the beginning of the day or picking up their student at the end of the day pull as far forward as possible before students exit or enter your vehicle. As displayed in the photo below, we would like you to pull all the way up to the yellow marked line on the picture. Once your vehicle is stationed anywhere along the sidewalk, it is expected and encouraged that your student will get out at that point and walk into the school. Thank you for your cooperation!
SMS Cell Phone Practices
"Bell to Bell, No Cell" SMS strives to create a safe environment that is academic focused, and our school has a No Cell Phone Policy for all grade levels (6-8).
We recognize that cell phones become a distraction in the learning environment and our ultimate goal is to allow students to engage in the learning environment with their peers. Students will leave their phones in their lockers or at home during the school day (8:15 AM - 2:55 PM); this will include lunch periods. All students will receive a student ID with their lunch barcode. Students will be asked to use their barcodes when receiving a school lunch. If students have misplaced their barcode, they can printed from Campus Parent/Student Portal.

Parents can order their child's yearbook at Jostens.com. The price is $30 until December 31. After that date, the price goes up to $35.

ISD 728 Football Game Reminder
At ISD 728 football games, our young fans - from elementary through middle school, will not be allowed to attend without a parent, guardian or supervising adult in attendance. Additionally, and as a reminder, once a spectator has left the stadium, they will not be allowed to re-enter.
ISD 728 also will not allow: bags, balls, outside beverages, pets, props, face paint, signs, flags, or other items that may create a disruption during the game.
Please note - due to liability, we will no longer be storing student bags at football games. Students must make plans to store their bags elsewhere prior to the game.
Thank you and enjoy the game!
Minnesota Tax Relief
Minnesota has two tax relief programs for families with children in kindergarten through grade 12: the K-12 Education Subtraction, and the K-12 Education Credit. Both programs help lower taxes and may provide a larger refund.
Please visit the Minnesota Department of Revenue’s K-12 Promotional Materials Toolkit for resources.
