Summer Update
It is hard to believe that we have reached the middle of the summer. We are busy preparing Hawthorne to welcome our Wildcubs for the new school year. Important information about Hawthorne Elementary can be found in our HES Parent Information 24-25. If you are new to Hawthorne, please take some time to review this information prior to the beginning of school.
We hope that you have had the opportunity to visit the Mt. Pleasant Library and curl up with some good books. If you have not already done so, please check out our HES and CES Summer Reading site for recommendations and summer reading resources.
We are in the process of finalizing master schedules and class placements. This information along with bus assignments will be available in the Parent Portal on Wednesday, August 21st. The week of August 26th we will share detailed information on how to set your child’s dismissal instructions in School Dismissal Manager. You will also receive a bus tag for your child's backpack.
We are so excited to welcome everyone for our Meet and Greet on August 29th! Please see the schedule below for more information.
Our clerical staff will be returning on August 12th. Please reach out with any questions.
Welcome New Families
We are so excited to welcome our new families each year. Whether this is your first child coming to kindergarten or you recently moved to Mt. Pleasant, we are excited to be on this journey with you. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.
There are a few things you can do to prepare for the start of a new school year.
Two Weeks Before School
Review the HES Parent Information 24-25.
Log in to the Parent Portal on August 21st for class assignments and bus information.
If you already ordered school supplies through A.Hartz, they will be sent directly to Hawthorne. If you still need to purchase supplies, please see the School Supply Lists. If you purchased the supplies on your own, please bring the supplies to the Meet & Greet.
One Week Before School
Join us for the Meet and Greet on August 29th.
Review the School Dismissal Manager Information and set up your child’s dismissal routine.
Review the Important Information from the Health Office.
Visit the Food Service page and set up My School Bucks if your child will purchase breakfast, lunch, or snacks. Please note we are a nut-free school. Please do not send in food containing nuts, nut butter, Nutella, or Sun Butter.
First Day of School
Kindergarten will begin one hour later. The morning buses for kindergarten students will run one hour later on the first day of school. If you drive your kindergarten student to school, drop-off will be between 8:45 and 9:00 a.m. at the Brighton Avenue entrance.
Send your child to school with a healthy, nut-free snack. You may send your child to school with lunch, or meals can be purchased in the cafeteria.
Send in a change of clothes to be kept at school.
Have your child wear sneakers to school as students attend physical education classes daily.
Have your kindergarten child wear the colored wristband they received at the Meet & Greet.
Give your child a big hug and let them know how excited you are for them to start their first day as a Hawthorne Wildcub.
K-2 Meet & Greet
Hawthorne families are invited to a Meet and Greet in your child’s classroom on Thursday, August 29th. The Meet and Greet is an opportunity for you and your child to stop by to visit the classroom, meet the teachers and say hello to some new friends.
Please have photo identification ready and proceed to the Memorial Drive Entrance to check in when you arrive.
Please see the schedule below:
Kindergarten: 8:30-9:15 a.m.
Grade 2: 9:15-10:00 a.m.
Grade 1: 10:00-10:45 a.m.
Kindergarten teachers will provide students with wristbands at the Meet and Greet. Please be sure to have your kindergarten student wear the wristbands for the first week of school.
If you ordered school supplies through A.Hartz, they will be delivered to the classroom. If you did not order through A.Hartz, you may drop the supplies off with the teacher during the Meet and Greet.
