Oct. 27th-Nov. 3rd SNYM News
Welcome to the St. Nick's Youth Ministry Update
For most people, Halloween is just a fun (or sinister) secular holiday that stands on its own. But it actually used to be an important part of a short liturgical season focused on death, Allhallowtide.
All Saints’ Day has been celebrated on November 1st since the first millennium. It was sometimes called Hallowmas (Hallow = holy/saint; mas = short for Mass), or All Hallows. Its origins were practical: With all the great martyrs and saints of the early Church, there weren’t enough days in the year to honor them all. All Hallows was a catch-all day.
The Vigil for this important feast was called All Hallows’ Eve, now known as Halloween. It was often a day of fasting and praying in preparation for the great feast on All Hallows, which began in the evening with a Vigil Mass.
In the 13th century, St. Odilo of Cluny popularized a feast for remembering and praying for all the dead, All Souls Day. While we ask the saints in heaven for their prayers, we pray for the rest of the faithful departed, in case they are suffering in purgatory.
All Hallows Eve, All Hallows, and All Souls complete Allhallowtide: the Triduum of Death.

FIRST FRIDAY

Youth and Teens (6th-12th grade/ EDGE & HSYG) are invited to enjoy an evening together on Friday, November 8th, 5:30-8:30pm.
This will be an opportunity for the Youth & Teens to share a meal, complete a service project, and have social time together. Pizza will be provided.
(PLEASE ENSURE ALL YOUTH & TEENS HAVE APPROPRIATE COLD WEATHER ATTIRE IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY.) Use the link below to RSVP by 11/8/24.
CANDY BAGS DONATED!
For our last First Friday (on October 4th) the Youth & Teens chose their service project for the month, and prayed the Rosary for the recipients of the 150 Candy Bags that they prepared.
This week the Candy Bags were DELIVERED!
75 candy bags were donated to The Door (a shelter for ages 12-18) and 75 more were donated to S.O.A.P (Street Outreach Advocacy Program for ages 12-18). The staff was very grateful for the donations!
I was brought to tears as they explained that the Youth & Teens who partcipate in the programs find comfort in knowing others care and are praying for them, but rarely receive those types of intentions from their peers, so this donation will be extra special!
As always, I cannot fully express how extraordinary our SNYM Youth & Teens truly are.
Please join me in applauding and thanking these inspiring Young Catholics! -Mrs. Beth
EDGE - MIDDLE SCHOOL YOUTH GROUP

HSYG - HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH GROUP
RECAP FOR OCT 27
Many from HSYG assisted at the All Saints Celebration and because Ms. Heather was very thankful for their help, she popped in to express her gratitude to the Teens. See video below.
Some of our Teens were not able to attend the All Saints Celebration, so we continued the celebrating with an afternoon of fun at HSYG! Chef Shannon was so kind to cook pizza rolls, so to pass the time I gave the Teens a prompt that turned into a 30 minute discussion.
The prompt was Name one Saint and one Question you would want to ask them. As usual, their input was very impressive and YOU WILL WANT TO WATCH THIS VIDEO!
Before everyone devoured the snacks, we celebrated our October birthdays! We then moved to the Social Hall for more Minute-To-Win-It games before we closed in prayer.
Many thanks to Shannon & Rob Blackburn for blessing us with their ongoing assistance in HSYG!
COMING UP ON NOV 3
This week the Teens will review Part 1 and complete Part 2 to finish Lesson 1 of Venture.

Please prayerfully consider completing your certification, and/ or asking individuals who you think would be a willing volunteer. Or, you can submit suggestions for me to contact. Thank you. -Beth
