Athletes from New Hanover High School congratulated Freeman Bears with high fives, smiles and encouragement at dismissal on the first day of school. Invited by the Community School team from CIS, they showed up with great positivity--even when little fans of Laney talked a little smack.

Third Grade BOG3

All third graders enrolled at R. Freeman Elementary School will take the Reading Beginning of Grade Test on Wednesday, August 14, 2024. This is part of North Carolina's Read to Achieve (RtA) law. The state's goal is that all third graders "read at or above grade level by the end of third grade." The BOG3

provides a baseline of reading comprehension
satisfies state RtA requirements if a student scores proficient
is used for school and student growth

Attendance is important, as students tend do better when they test on the actual day of the test. Please get a good night's rest the night before and arrive to school on time.
