Ripon Cathedral School Update

Cracking Colour Run 2024
A Fantastic Colourful Afternoon for Books for School
We finished the term with a fantastic fun Colour Run. The afternoon started with Nursery, Reception and Year 1 and Year 2 taking to our course. They threw pots of colour in the air before making their way through our four colour stations. We then repeated the process with our Key Stage 2 pupils. All the children had a great time, enjoying the fun of playing with colour and dancing to our Colour Run Playlist. An enormous thank you once again to Dagger Diving Services who sponsored the event and made it possible.
Please do collect sponsor money over the half term break and pay it to school through ParentPay. Thanks again for everyone's wonderful support!
We will put together more pictures of the event in dues course and will publish on Dojo!
Have a great half term!
Key Stage 1 Multi-Skills Tournament
Multi-skills Fun
This week pupils in Year 1 and Year 2 took part in our annual Multi Skills Festival. They played in their teams and competed against each other through a variety of races and games. The children had great fun and showed super teamwork. After showing their skills in balancing, dribbling, throwing and running we finished with a relay race. Well done to Team Dragons who were our winners.
Year 3 and Year 5 Market Stall
Super Sandwiches by Phoebe (Year 3)
On Thursday, Year 3 went to the Ripon Market and sold fresh and delicious sandwiches that they had made in the morning. They made five types of sandwiches: cheese and tomato, chicken salad, tuna and sweetcorn, ham salad and egg and cress. They sold 80 sandwiches and the money is going towards sponsoring a guide dog for two whole years. They will get information 'pup dates' from the guide dog trainers for their guide dog. They raised over £135 from the sandwich stall, which will be added to the £30 already raised from their 'guess the name ' competition.
Creating Lino Print T-Shirts in Year 5
As part of the children’s work on rainforests in geography and printing in art the Year 5 created a design for t-shirts. Firstly, the children researched an animal from the rainforest. They drew the animal onto the lino with a thick black marker and used the lino tools to dig out the design. The children then printed their designs onto paper before making any further improvements to the lino, then choosing the colours and printing the design onto their t-shirt.
On Thursday Year 5 took their fantastic t-shirts up to Ripon Market, where we had a stall. Working in small groups, all of the children were able to have a go at manning the stall, selling the t-shirts and talking to members of the public. They spoke with confidence to customers, telling them about the making process as well as sharing their facts on the rainforest animals they had printed onto their t-shirts. All of the t-shirts were sold - we had some very happy customers. We are so proud of the children!
Beautiful Butterflies
To link in with our mini beast topic, the nursery children have been working hard in maths, focusing on symmetry. To help us practise what symmetry looks like, they created their own beautiful butterfly paintings. As well as practising writing their names!
Heart Dissection
Learning about the Heart
This week, Year 6 have been learning about the circulatory system. They have explored what blood is made from and have acted as blood flowing around the body collecting oxygen from the lungs and carrying it around the body through the veins and arteries They finished the week by looking at, and labelling, a real pig heart. They started by identifying the left and right chambers and discussing what they could see and feel. They then had chance to cut open the heart and to identify each atrium and ventricle as well as look for the aorta and the vena cava. The children were surprised about how small the parts of the heart were; how tough some blood vessels were; and how much clotted blood was left behind. Luckily, the smell didn't put too many off! They worked responsibly and safely and had great fun putting their learning into a real context. Well done as always, Year 6!
Reception Worship
Reception's First Class Worship
On Wednesday Reception had their first Class Worship. We shared our thoughts about all the amazing plant and animal life in the world. We also shared our learning on the life cycles of plants, butterflies and frogs through poems and songs. The whole class did an amazing job of speaking clearly and singing loudly. Well done Reception! Do take a look out at our poem and thoughts by clicking on the link below.
We always enjoy sharing who our Stars of the Week are in our special Celebration Worship on Friday.
