Sultan Middle School Families,
Last week we had our Veterans Day Assembly with speakers VFW Commander Jon Guncay and SFC Sarah Braun. Students and staff enjoyed listening to their experiences as veterans.
Our first place winners for the Patriot Pen essay contest are: Eloise Sofie and Katherine Goeggel. Congratulations!
Thanksgiving Break is coming up soon and here is the schedule:
Wednesday, Nov. 27th is a half day with early release at: 11:13am
Thursday, Nov. 28th, and Friday, Nov. 29th, we have no school to celebrate Thanksgiving.
Back to school Monday, Dec. 2nd.
Winter Break in December is a great time to get your students sports physical! If your student wants to participate in the next season of winter sports which includes Girls Basketball and Wrestling, then please be sure that your student has a current sports physical. They are good for two years. Submit it on final forms or turn it in at the SMS office.
A Note from 6th grade
From Mrs. Lomans
In addition to the remarkable effort put forth by all the 6th-grade students, Katherine Goeggel went above and beyond, winning the 2024-2025 Patriot's Pen competition for her powerful essay. Her hard work and dedication paid off, and she was recognized by the VFW Post 2554 for her outstanding contribution. Katherine’s essay not only stood out for its clarity and depth but also for the passion she put into expressing her ideas. Her achievement is a testament to the incredible work all the students put into this competition, with Katherine leading by example!

Tardy Procedure
If a student is tardy to school in the morning, he/she must report to the student office. Tardiness due to dental/doctor appointments or late buses will be excused. Students not having a note from a parent/guardian or whose parent/guardian has not called will be issued an unexcused tardy.
Unexcused tardies will result in the following consequences:
• At 5th tardy – Lunch held in the Student Success Center to review expectations.
• At 8th tardy –Two lunches held in the Student Success Center to review expectations.
• At 11th tardy – Four lunches held in the Student Success Center to review expectations and a parent meeting scheduled.
• At 14th tardy --Alternative passing schedule put in place to help facilitate arriving to class on time. This will be in place for the remainder of the quarter.
For more information on our attendance policies click the link below for our Student Handbook.
Cell Phone and Electronic Use
Students are allowed to bring personal cell phones and other electronic devices to school but they may only be used before and after school (not during lunch, in the halls during passing period, or in the bathrooms). This plan puts safety and learning as priorities. All devices should be Off & Away (not vibrate or silent) and away (in backpack) during school and passing times. If a student has an emergency or needs to communicate with home/family, please contact the front office. SMS is not responsible for lost, stolen, or missing electronic item
