Vela

  • Vela is a local nonprofit dedicated to empowering parents to become their child's greatest advocates. Through an AISD & VELA partnership, we are offering a 3-part interactive virtual series for parents to gain knowledge, identify strategies, and find resources to support their child's special education services and individual education program (IEP). This opportunity is available in English or in Spanish! Parents, staff, and community members can REGISTER to participate in one, two, or all three sessions.

Austin Community College (ACC) and Student Accessibility Services (SAS): SAS staff will assist students by identifying reasonable accommodations, establishing and coordinating accommodations, conducting one-on-one meetings in person, online, or by phone, providing access to Assistive Technology, offering disability-related problem-solving and advocacy, and providing information and referrals to additional ACC resources.

Austin Community College and the Student Accessibility Services (SAS) Department will be presenting at the March 26th Empower Hour for two information sessions:

Student Accessibility Services aims to provide equitable and effective access for students with documented disabilities to support their full participation in college classes and activities.


SAS staff assist students by identifying reasonable accommodations, establishing and coordinating accommodations, conducting one-on-one meetings in person, online, or by phone, providing access to Assistive Technology, offering disability-related problem-solving and advocacy, and providing information and referrals to additional ACC resources.

Modernization of Yellow Jacket Stadium!

CAT Team Interest Form -Yellow Jacket Stadium CAT Team - Austin ISD has so much to be proud of! With your help, Austin voters passed the largest and most equitable bond Austin ISD has ever seen in November 2022. We got here with the hard work of the community, teachers, staff, trustees and you by keeping our students at the center of the vision. This work and engagement will continue as we implement the Bond. We’re excited to share the full schedule for the modernization projects. We are getting ready to hit the ground running on these projects, starting with the modernization of Yellow Jacket Stadium! The first step in the process is the formation of the Campus Architectural Teams (CAT). You might already be familiar with these, but they are a team of teachers, staff, parents and community members that meet with your campus’s architects to guide the design and make decisions for your school’s project. CATs will work with the campus design team through every step of the process, from preliminary designs to move-in and grand openings. If you are interested in joining the CAT, please complete this form by Monday, February 12. Once again, thank you for your tireless efforts on behalf of our students to make this vision a reality! We could not do any of this without your support.

Swim ATX Program

SwimATX - Last week, I was happy to meet with representatives from the City of Austin in order to hear more about their SwimATX program. SwimATX is both a learn-to-swim program and a vocational training program designed to be accessible to students of all swimming backgrounds. Trained staff from the City of Austin’s Aquatic Division will utilize curriculums approved by the Internationally recognized Starfish Aquatics Institute. Students will begin by establishing comfort in the water and quickly progress to learning how to swim with endurance. As students become more proficient, they will begin incorporating lifeguard training modules approved by the also Internationally recognized StarGUARD Elite lifeguard certification training program. It is our hope that by the end of the year, students who are at least 15 years of age register for and successfully pass the lifeguard certification course and obtain employment with the City of Austin’s Aquatic Division. For fiscal year 2024 all the Aquatic Division staff have a base pay rate of $20.80 per hour.

Please note that being able to swim is not a requirement of this program. This course will count as a physical education credit for students, and will be completed during the school day, beginning in Fall 2024. If your student is interested, please reach out to their counselor.

TWILIGHT

Twilight began 09/12/2023, Monday through Thursday, Cafeteria, 4:45 to 6pm, snacks and transportation provided.

Twilight comienzo el 12 de Septembre, de lunes a jueves, en el cafeteria, de 4:45 a 6:00 p.m refrigerios y transporte proporcionados.

Eastside's Twilight program provides flexible student-centered learning opportunities that improve students' educational outcomes through credit recovery programs.

IEP/504

  • Easy IEP/504 has released a Parent Portal feature that will allow the parent/guardian/adult student to virtually access IEP/504 documentation, progress reports, and other documents generated in the system that the school district would like to send the family. Once logged into the system, parents/guardians/adult students may navigate between any of the headers which may contain information related to the student. Guides are available in both English and Spanish. Please go to AISD’s Special Education website for accessible copies of the guides.

Please be reminded:

  • If you wish to check out your student, you must come to the campus in order to do so. Checking a student out through the phone will not be permitted, as we are not able to verify guardian identity.
  • All lunch delivered to the campus must be brought by a verified guardian in person.
