Alpha Beta Psi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Joins Read Across America in Bessemer
As part of the Read Across America Week initiative, Greenwood and J. S. Abrams elementary schools' scholars welcomed special guests – the Alpha Beta Psi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. – for a delightful reading session.
The event, which aimed to promote literacy and the joy of reading among students, witnessed enthusiastic participation from sorority members. Dressed in their signature pink and green attire, the members captivated the scholars with engaging storytelling and interactive reading activities.
The Alpha Beta Psi Omega Chapter's visit provided students with an opportunity to engage with literature and served as a source of inspiration. The sorority members emphasized the importance of education and encouraged the scholars to pursue their academic goals with determination and passion.
"We’re extremely excited to partner with Bessemer City Schools to foster a love of literacy and promote lifelong learning," remarked LaKorya Jackson, an Alpha Beta Psi Omega Chapter member. "The students and teachers were amazing to us, and we look forward to seeing them soon. We hope to support their classroom libraries with our ongoing book donations."

We're thrilled to announce that 20 exceptional students have been inducted into the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) at our Bessemer Center for Technology (BCT)! In a dazzling display of intellect and innovation, the young female students of Hard, Greenwood, and Abrams elementary schools' GEMS (Girls Excelling in Math and Science) clubs took center stage at the GEMS Exposition held at Regions Field in Birmingham.
