2) Franklin Elementary StoryWalk®
Franklin Elementary School is excited to announce the permanent installation of a StoryWalk® along the path on the west side of the school. StoryWalk® was created in 2007 by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT, in collaboration with former staff member Rachel Senechal and is a way to promote early literacy, physical activity, and family time together in nature. It’s a fun and educational family activity that you can bring to your community! Take a stroll and enjoy successive pages from a children’s story along your path.
Our StoryWalk® was made possible by Roxbury High School senior and Eagle Scout Candidate, Nick Blenx as his Eagle Scout Service Project. We would like to extend our gratitude to Nick and Boy Scout Troop 159 as well as Lowe’s, All Quality Fence, family and friends, and the Franklin PTA for their generous donations to make this project possible. Please enjoy our first book, Lawrence in the Fall by Matthew Farina and illustrated by Doug Salati. Books will change every two months. If you would like more information about the project, you may contact FES Librarian, Sarah DiLorenzo.

Please see the information below for the month of November from our school counselor, Mrs. LaCosta
November– The SEL theme of the month is exploring feelings. School wide we will be focusing on gratitude & thankfulness as November is National Gratitude Month. At home, students can participate in a Gratitude Challenge linked here. If students are able to complete 5 of the gratitude tasks in a row (think BINGO) they can bring it to school signed by a parent to receive a prize from Mrs. LaCosta.
Upcoming dates:
11/22 -- Kindness Quest Laser Assembly K-4
11/11-11/20-- During the week Mrs. LaCosta will be collecting Turkey, Chicken or Ham donations for Interfaith Food Pantry. We recognize that we just did a can drive and do not want anyone to feel obligated to donate! If you happen to have a free turkey coupon etc and would like to donate it, you can bring it to Franklin School on the days and times listed below and Mrs. LaCosta will take care of the collection and delivery of all donations. Donations will be accepted daily before school from 8:00-8:50 from 11/11-11/20 or after school on 11/12 until 4:30. There will be a large box outside of the main entrance to collect your donation. PLEASE DO NOT SEND IN DONATIONS TO SCHOOL WITH YOUR CHILD. Here is a flier regarding the Thanksgiving Donation program at the Interfaith Food Pantry. If you have any questions please email Mrs. LaCosta. glacosta@roxbury.org

Important Information from the Student Health Office
1. Reporting your child's absence: Please remember to report your child's absence daily in Genesis or by calling the attendance line (973) 584-1643. The reason for your child's absence needs to be included. If your child is sick, the symptoms that he/she is experiencing need to be included as well.
2. Reasons to keep your child home or contact the nurse:
-Your child has tested positive for Covid-19
-Your child has a fever
-Your child has vomited
-Your child has diarrhea
-Your child has a rash
-Your child has head lice
-Your child has an eye infection
-Your child has been in the hospital
*In addition to the above, with any other illness you should keep your child home until his or her symptoms are improving. Child needs to be fever, diarrhea and vomit free (without any medication) for 24 hours prior to returning. There are some conditions that require a doctor’s note for clearance (please check with the nurse) but when possible, doctor’s notes are always encouraged.
3. We take food allergies seriously here at Franklin. If your child has a food allergy or sensitivity and you would like an alternate menu, please contact Lorraine Kunick, Director of Nutrition for Maschio’s Food Services via email: lkunick@maschiofood.com. If your child comes to school without a packed lunch, we will assume it is okay for that student to have the daily menu option or the swap out item. You can find the lunch menu on the Franklin website.
You can find information about our Life Threatening Food Allergy Program here.
Students can only bring food from the Approved Snacks list into their classrooms or instructional areas.
4. Please send your child with a change of clothes in the event they have an accident or get dirty at recess.
Should you have any health questions or concerns, you can reach Mrs Wisner (mwisner@roxbury.org) or by calling the school at 973-584-5549 ext. 2504.
