MESSAGE FROM OUR ADMINISTRATION
It's February already and time certainly is going by quickly!
The second semester is long and intense and our teachers are working very hard to have our students ready for the next level. Just a gentle reminder that we need all students to be in attendance at school unless they are ill. We have many students that are coming to school late and checking out early. When students are absent from school, they miss out on consistent instruction, tend to make lower scores on standardized tests, and develop negative social and emotional development. So please help us by making sure your child is at school and on time. We want each one of them to be successful learners.
We love our Bears!
MESSAGE FROM OUR COUNSELORS
Second semester offers a new beginning for students to set new academic goals and work hard to achieve them. The deadline for requesting any schedule changes for this semester has passed, and all classes are off to an awesome start!
Our 8th grade students will be completing their course selection process for their 9th grade year at Montgomery High School, and all course request forms are due Thursday, February 8, to principle course teachers.
Random Acts of Kindness Day 2024 is on February 17. The underlying goal is to promote the life-changing potential contained in even a small act of kindness. We encourage everyone to just look for someone within your circle of influence and do something to improve their day. Studies have shown that acts of generosity not only benefit the recipients, but also boost happiness and well-being for the person offering kindness.

Advanced Academics Information: Baylor TIP (Talent Identification Program) Grades 4-12
Baylor TIP’s mission is to identify exceptional talent in STEM and the humanities and provide world-class learning opportunities commensurate with students’ exceptional potential. Baylor TIP focuses on both the identification of talent through our assessments and the opportunity to develop talents and interests through customized educational recommendations and out-of-school programs.
Qualifications Needed to Take the Baylor TIP Assessments
Students qualify to take our above-level assessments through any one of three avenues:
- score in the top 25% on one or more subtest of a state or national standardized exam (local norms are recommended but not required),
- be formally identified as gifted or talented by a district, or
- be recommended by a teacher, administrator, and/or parent.
MISD will offer this assessment to interested students on a still to be determined Saturday in February. Once the date is determined, it will be placed on our MJH website under Counselor's Corner. There is a $75 fee to take the assessment. Any student in grades 6-8 who meets one of the above requirements is eligible to test. Testing must be done by February 28th. 7th grade students interested in being a part of Baylor TIP Academy in grades 8-12, must test by February 28th. Testing can be done by registering your child at home or by registering with the school once the testing date is announced. You can find more information here: https://gifted.soe.baylor.edu/baylor-tip/information-parents.
Interested students and their parents can contact Tressie Stewart at Tressie.Stewart@misd.org or 936-276-3320 with any questions.

SPECIAL EDUCATION PARENT NIGHT: FEB 27
MJH PTO
ATTENDANCE
Notice regarding attendance notes - beginning after Christmas break attendance office will only accept doctor/parent notes within 5 days of the absences.
LUNCH/VISITORS
A friendly reminder, we do not have an open lunch policy so please do not order food for your child from outside vendors to be delivered to the school during the school day (i.e. Uber Eats, Grub Hub, Door Dash, or any kind of delivery service). This is a safety concern that disrupts the educational process within our community and random people delivering food is not part of our safety plan. In addition, please do not bring or share lunches with other students due to safety, medical concerns, allergies, etc.
We do have parent lunch tables for parents to eat lunch with their student and a friend.
Parent Drop Off Table: If your child forgets their lunch, we have a parent drop off table in the front foyer for you to drop off lunches. Please let your child know you have brought their lunch to school.
TRANSPORTATION CHANGES
We ask that you make every effort to request transportation changes prior to 1:30 p.m. in order for us to be certain that your student leaves in the correct manner. You may make changes by:
- Sending a note with your child;
MJH CAR RIDER LINE/BUS POLICY
Due to the continued growth of MISD, we will no longer allow extra riders to ride the bus routes. Only registered riders will be allowed on the bus routes. We highly encourage students to car-pool to school due to the high volume of traffic and limited parking during the morning hours.
