Important Reminders!
Past Due Action Item: All homeroom teachers need to submit the name of a scholar in your class whose family we will be inviting to the equity team roundtable discussion, They Can't See Us Without You." Names must be submitted to Ms. Sanchez by 9am on Tuesday. There will be a submission form available in morning huddle tomorrow.
Peer Tutoring: If you are interested in a scholar in your class receiving tutoring from a National Honor Society scholar, please email Ms. Leggett with your class name, scholar name and an area they need assistance with along with times that the tutor can come. NHS scholars can assist with independent reading steps, homework packets and completion of classwork. All scholars will need to meet with you before they can start tutoring.
Parent Communication: If you have any new scholars in your class you should’ve reached out to parents with a positive phone call or in person introduction by now and given them information on liveschool, remind app and classroom supplies they need.

Instructional Look For:
As we enter a new month, we will begin a new focus: RIGOR! This week’s look for is higher order thinking. Consider the questions you are asking. Do they lead up to conceptual high level thinking. For example, when teaching perimeter and area formulas, the question you are getting to in the end should be, “Why do we add when calculating perimeter and why do we multiply when calculating area?” As you annotate your lesson this week ensure you are identifying high order questions!

Culture and Climate Corner
More times than not our scholars need social and emotional skills to succeed in school and in life. We attempt to shape scholars’ behavior to increase self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. These skills are shown to reduce emotional distress, prevent conduct problems, and contribute to higher academic achievement.
Social and emotional skills are also critical in building trusting relationships with each other and they encourage students to be engaged in school. We are constantly shaping behavior through our words, and actions. Even subtle facial expressions, voice tone, and body language signal positive intentions.
Here are a few ways that we here Global Leadership Academy West work endlessly to shape pro-social behaviors.
- Intentionally build relationships with scholars
- Directly and frequently teach positive expectations and acknowledge prosocial behavior
- Instill logical consequences when correcting off-task behaviors
- Conflicts are resolved by dialogue that gets at the root of the conflict and identifies best ways to move forward
Global Greatness Important Tidbit for the Week:
Remember that when providing LiveSchool points to scholars, we should acknowledge the scholar, state the expectation, then provide a LiveSchool point. Points may still be provided for the entire class if truly earned but it should be aligned with a singular expectation. This practice, however, should only be utilized in special cases.
