Principal's Note
Hello All!
What a week we had! Monday, April 1st, we had author Mat Heagerty join us for an assembly for our middle school students and also included our CFB 5th graders. His presentation focused on learning differences- ADHD, autism and dyslexia and how each difference presents challenges and also some cool advantages. He talked about his own school experiences and the tools and tricks he learned for himself along the way. His messages about passion, creativity and resilience resonated with the audience quite well and we all enjoyed his messages. Learn more about Mat Heagerty here.
6th and 7th graders began their MCAS ELA testing this Thursday and Friday. 8th grade MCAS ELA testing will be next week, April 9th (Tuesday) and 10th (Wednesday). Please be sure that chromebooks are in good working order and are fully charged each night. All students should be sure to have a fun book to read while we try to maintain a quiet testing environment for all.
Millis Night of the Arts is coming up on Wednesday, April 10th and SEPAC is co-sponsoring a presentation by Sara Ward about Executive Functioning on April 23rd. Our eighth grade teachers are making arrangements for their completion festivities. Please save the date of Thursday, June 13th. We also have information to share about the solar eclipse on Monday, please review the recommended precautions. Please be sure to check out the details below!
NEAR TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE, MONDAY APRIL 8TH
Next Monday, April 8th, we will be experiencing a near total eclipse. In Millis, we will be experiencing about 90% of the sun being eclipsed. Early weather reports indicate it will be a sunny day - until the eclipse. According to the NASA website, we should begin to experience it at about 2:17, it will reach its peak at about 3:25, and be finished by 4:40. NASA has some interesting resources. An interactive map allows you to see the path of the eclipse as well as enter in your zip code and see the progress of the eclipse in Millis (02054!) or wherever you live. There is also a safety page that outlines safe viewing requirements and has DIY viewers that allow students to view the eclipse with the sun at their backs. We cannot stress enough to our students to not look directly at the sun! Sunglasses do not provide the proper protection. Permanent damage to the eyes can occur if the sun is viewed directly. There are eclipse glasses that provide safety. These glasses must be 12312-2 ISO certified. Only these glasses should be used if looking skyward for any length of time. Please remind your children of the safety measures needed while viewing the eclipse.
