North High Newsletter
February 2023
From the Principal
Greetings Viking Families,
The Spring 2023 semester is in full swing. Students are focused on classes, activities, and athletics. We remain focused on School Safety encouraging students to Be a Viking: Be Responsible, Be Respectful and Be Accountable. Below are some important safety reminders to discuss with your student(s):
- Refrain from opening or propping external doors to the school allowing others to enter (even if they are students).
- Anyone requiring entry to the school must use the main entrance (flagpole) to request entry from security.
- Students are not allowed to leave campus before 3:05pm without permission.
- Food deliveries to school are not permitted.
Students found violating these expectations will be held accountable, including but not limited to suspension. Please refer to the Standard Response Protocol (pictured below) for a review of safety measures in place.
Students are in the midst of registering for classes. School counselors are working closely with teachers and students to discuss the process. Talk with your students to learn more about their classes for next year.
Spring Parent Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Thursday, March 23rd. We will conduct them as we did last fall (virtually 12-2:45pm; in person 3-7pm). Additional information will be provided in the March Newsletter.
We encourage students to take advantage of the OPS Summer Intern Program where students can assist with Next Level Learning in our elementary schools. The link for this and other summer opportunities is included in this newsletter.
Thank you all for your continued support and involvement in the Viking Community. If you have any questions, please call us 531-299-2700.

SkillsUSA is getting ready for the State Conference
In the fall, the AP Literature and Composition students studied "what constitutes literary merit?" via various texts like August Wilson's play Fences and Harper Lee's book, To Kill A Mockingbird. On January 20th, those AP students were able to watch the Omaha Community Playhouse's production of Fences. Students got to meet cast members, including North Alum ('02) Raydell Cordell (played the role of Lyons). In February, the students will go to the Orpheum's To Kill A Mockingbird production.
33 North students visited UNO
Students visited UNO after they were accepted to learn about college scholarships and opportunities on the UNO campus.
Guest Speakers in English classes
On Monday, January 9th, members of the Culxr House and Nebraska Writers Collective, Jewel Rodgers and Lite Pole, presented to Mr. Magnett and Ms. Alati's classes.
