Cumberland Family News
October 28, 2024
Dear Cumberland Families,
We just wrapped up an incredible week with the PTO Fun Run! A huge thank you to our amazing PTO for organizing such a fun and successful event. We're also incredibly grateful to our students and families for your enthusiastic participation and generous fundraising efforts. The proceeds from the Fun Run will be dedicated to our playground project, which will benefit all of our students. We can't wait to see the positive impact this will have on our school community!
If you stopped by our Scholastic Book Fair over the past few days, thank you! If you haven't had a chance to stop in, the book fair is open for a few more days. Check below for the specific dates and times the book fair will be open this week!
We are excited to connect with you during Parent/Guardian-Teacher conferences this week. We value the opportunity to collaborate and work together to support your child's academic and social-emotional growth. Conference time is also a good time to look in the Lost and Found. Our cool mornings followed by warm days have yielded bins of sweatshirts and coats that are left behind at recess. Items remaining at the end of the day Wednesday, November 6th, will be donated.
Halloween Parade
It looks like beautiful weather is forecasted for our Halloween Parade on October 30th at 11am. A friendly reminder that students are allowed to wear school-appropriate costumes. Costumes must be safe: no face coverings, no weapons, no blood, and costumes must allow students to participate in regular learning.
Reminder: No school for 4K on Wednesday. 5K-5th are dismissed at 11:30 Wednesday. No student school Thursday or Friday.
Kind Regards, Jayne Heffron and Rebecca Salomon

Family Math Night - Shared Resources
Thank you to all who attended Family Math Night on October 21st and 22nd. During these events, students and family members engaged in game play focused on fact fluency.
Here are the resources we used:
Family Letters from IM - letters sent out by teacher before a new unit
- Games for Fluency Practice at Home by Grade - activities and resources from family night
Please note the games are built in stages and the goal is fluency. If it is too easy or challenging you can adjust a stage up or down. Think about making game play a weekly activity. Similar to how we ask students to read for a bit of time each night, added practice in playing Math Games can support fact fluency skills at home. Playing Sorry, Trouble, Chutes and Ladders, Candy Land, Top It (previously called War in the form of addition, subtraction or multiplication practice),Monopoly etc are always options for turning math facts and skills into family time at home!

The Scholastic eWallet is back and a wonderful tool to make book fair shopping and payments easier for your student if you choose not to send them with cash. Use the link on our book fair webpage to create an "eWallet" for your child. Please create a separate account for each child in your family and identify his/her homeroom teacher. TIP: Please consider adding an extra $1 to cover the sales tax. Visit our school’s book fair website to create your eWallet!
